Amit Shah's Bold Denial: No Deal with Humayun Kabir Amid Viral Clip Controversy
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, April 10 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah firmly dismissed any allegations of a partnership between former Trinamool Congress member Humayun Kabir's faction and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) aimed at 'polarising' the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal, asserting that the two entities are fundamentally different.
He directed criticism towards the Trinamool chief, Mamata Banerjee, suggesting that her party might be responsible for the widely circulated audio clip featuring Humayun Kabir, where he seemingly guarantees state BJP leaders 'steadfast support in removing Trinamool from governance.'
When asked about the supposed 'Kabir-BJP agreement' meant to instigate a religious rift in Bengal ahead of elections, Shah remarked, “You seem unaware of Mamata’s potential; she is capable of producing 2,000 such videos.”
He ruled out any chance of collaboration with Kabir’s party by stating, “Humayun Kabir and the BJP are as different as the North Pole is from the South Pole. We would prefer to remain in opposition for another 20 years rather than team up with a party that advocates constructing the Babri mosque in Bengal.”
The controversy erupted over a purported Rs 1,000 crore deal after Trinamool leaders conducted a press briefing on Thursday, branding Humayun Kabir as the BJP's 'B-team' and asserting that the party had secretly engaged in an agreement to incite and exacerbate religious tensions ahead of the elections.
During the press event led by West Bengal Minister Firhad Hakim and Aroop Biswas on Thursday, an audio clip allegedly featuring Humayun Kabir was unveiled, in which they claimed he and his newly established Aam Aadmi Unnayan Party (AAUP) were 'assuring the BJP of electoral support.'
In the unverified recording, Kabir was reportedly heard promising an unnamed individual that if the BJP could secure the majority of Hindu votes this time, he would play a crucial role in dividing the Muslim electorate to facilitate the Trinamool Congress's ousting from power.
In the alleged audio, Kabir also claimed to maintain regular communication with Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, assuring them of his party's unwavering support for the new BJP chief minister.
The leaked audio stirred significant political discussions, with the ruling Trinamool accusing the BJP of trying to sway the elections through financial influence.
Subsequently, AIMIM, led by Asaduddin Owaisi, severed ties with the nascent party and publicly declared their decision to withdraw from the alliance with Humayun Kabir and his new political formation.
