Abhishek Banerjee Accuses Adhir Chowdhury and Humayun Kabir of BJP Collaboration
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, March 29 (NationPress) Trinamool Congress's national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee accused the BJP and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of having a covert alliance with former Congress MP Adhir Chowdhury and Humayun Kabir, the leader of the Aam Janata Unnayan Party.
Speaking at a public gathering in Naoda, located in Murshidabad district, Banerjee claimed that voting for either Adhir Chowdhury or Humayun Kabir would, in essence, bolster the BJP.
He launched a fierce critique of both leaders, stating: “It is from Amit Shah’s office that security is provided to Humayun Kabir and Adhir Chowdhury. I challenge both to return the Central security forces assigned to you; the state will look after your safety. What secret deal do you have? The people need to see through this. You are merely giving power to the BJP. This is common knowledge.”
At the beginning of his address, Banerjee labeled both leaders as “BJP agents.”
Humayun Kabir, a former Trinamool Congress member, had switched to the BJP in 2019 but later returned to Trinamool Congress and became an MLA from Bharatpur.
In this context, Banerjee criticized Humayun Kabir for engaging in religion-focused politics at the behest of the BJP. “The BJP is manipulating religion to gain votes. Humayun Kabir is instigating division in the name of faith. He suddenly claims that a Babri Masjid needs to be built in Murshidabad. Yet, when he joined the BJP in 2019 and contested as a Lok Sabha candidate, he never mentioned the need for a Babri Masjid. He allied with those responsible for the Babri Masjid's demolition. Voting for these individuals means voting for Prime Minister Modi and the BJP,” Banerjee declared.
Additionally, addressing issues of factionalism within Murshidabad district, he warned party members to stay united. “If you wear the party's jersey, play for this team. Do not play for another team. If you attempt that, you will be sidelined within a month and will not be welcomed back. I am monitoring everyone closely and will take disciplinary action if necessary,” he asserted.
Banerjee concluded, “If anyone thinks there is discord between me and the candidate, they should realize that the candidate is essentially Abhishek Banerjee. Personal opinions will not influence our collective goals.”
