International Cricket Returns to Bengaluru: BCCI Unveils 2026-27 Home Match Schedule
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 26 (NationPress) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed the itinerary for senior men’s international home matches for the 2026-27 season, showcasing an exciting line-up with four visiting teams: West Indies, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, and Australia, spanning across various formats.
The Men in Blue are set to engage in 22 international matches in 17 different cities, providing fans across the nation the opportunity to witness high-caliber international cricket.
Importantly, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru is prepared to welcome international matches for the first time since October 2024, when India faced New Zealand in the third Test of a five-match series. The Karnataka State Cricket Association confirmed on Saturday that the venue has received government clearance to host both Indian Premier League and international games.
Cricket activities at this venue had been suspended in June 2024 following a tragic stampede during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) inaugural title celebrations, which led to 11 fatalities and numerous injuries.
Moreover, a significant highlight of the announcement is that the Barsapara Cricket Stadium (ACA Stadium) in Guwahati will host a Test match for the Border-Gavaskar series for the very first time. In November 2025, the stadium witnessed its inaugural red-ball match since its opening in 2012, when South Africa toured India for a multi-format series, marking the upcoming BGT Test as only the second red-ball match to be played at this venue.
The season will commence with the tour of the West Indies from September 27 to October 17, featuring a three-match ODI series followed by a five-match T20I series. The ODIs will take place in Trivandrum, Guwahati, and New Chandigarh, while the T20Is will be hosted in Lucknow, Ranchi, Indore, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru.
India will subsequently welcome Sri Lanka for a white-ball series comprising three ODIs and three T20Is from December 13 to 27. The ODIs will occur in Delhi, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad, with the T20Is scheduled in Rajkot, Cuttack, and Pune.
In recent years, Delhi has experienced severe air pollution during winter months, impacting players notably during the 2017 India-Sri Lanka Test when some players faced respiratory issues and nausea.
Last year, the BCCI had initially planned a Test against the West Indies in Kolkata in October and another against South Africa in Delhi in November. These matches were later rescheduled to ensure that Delhi could host the match before pollution levels escalated around Diwali.
At the dawn of the new year, Zimbabwe will tour India for a three-match ODI series from January 3 to 9, with matches scheduled in Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Mumbai.
The season will conclude with the much-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia from January 21 to March 3. The inaugural match of this eagerly awaited Test series will occur in Nagpur.
The series will then advance to Chennai, Guwahati, Ranchi, and Ahmedabad, promising an exhilarating contest between two of the top teams in international cricket.
