Kolkata, Sep 1 (NationPress) - A controversy has erupted following the alleged dismantling of a Trinamool Congress protest stage by the Indian Army in the Maidan region, which is governed by the Army’s Eastern Command. The Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, has accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of unjustly defaming the military regarding this incident.
In a social media statement, Adhikari expressed, “Your audacity to defame the Indian Army, the pride of our nation, marks a new low. We have always understood your anti-national inclinations, but your claim that 200 valiant Army personnel ‘fled’ upon your arrival at the Maidan is not only the biggest falsehood you have ever spoken, but also a vile attempt to undermine the dignity of our Armed Forces, whose valor and sacrifice are unparalleled.” This statement was made following Banerjee's public outcry over the situation.
Adhikari asserted that the Trinamool Congress’s temporary structure in the Maidan had been unlawfully occupying public land for nearly a month, in clear violation of the Indian Army's two-day authorization, as outlined by the Supreme Court.
He added that despite several reminders, the Trinamool Congress obstinately refused to dismantle the illegal structure, prompting the Army to intervene after notifying the Kolkata Police. “Now, instead of acknowledging your party’s defiance, you are weaving a false narrative to save face. This is sheer shamelessness,” Adhikari stated.
He further remarked that Banerjee’s obsession with power has blinded her to the extent of showing disrespect to the nation’s soldiers. “You have insulted not just the Army but every Indian who cherishes their service. Your derogatory remarks attempt to diminish their valor. Resign immediately if any dignity remains within you,” the LoP urged.
“This is the same Army that safeguards our borders, stands firm during crises, and is respected globally. Yet, in your desperate effort to present yourself as a ‘street fighter,’ you have degraded their dignity for trivial political gain,” the BJP leader concluded, addressing the Chief Minister on this matter.
