Bengaluru, Oct 23 (NationPress) A young woman has taken legal action against her boyfriend and his family for allegedly coercing her into converting to Islam prior to their marriage.

The incident was reported at the HSR Layout police station in Bengaluru, with a formal complaint lodged against Mohammad Ishaq.

The authorities revealed that the victim and Mohammad Ishaq connected via Instagram on October 17, 2024. Following several interactions, they began a romantic relationship. On October 30, 2024, they met at a mall in the Thanisandra area of Bengaluru, where he promised to speak with her parents about marriage.

In her complaint, the victim alleges that Ishaq rented a room in Dasarahalli and allegedly exploited her sexually.

She claimed that he repeatedly took advantage of her physically under the guise of marriage. Eventually, she grew suspicious of his actions and learned he was involved with multiple other women. When she pressed for marriage, he continuously deferred it with various excuses.

It was later uncovered that Ishaq became engaged to a Muslim woman on September 14, 2025. When she confronted him about this, he reportedly threatened her, stating that contacting him again would result in her death, and urged her to move on. The victim also indicated that she faced verbal abuse.

Subsequently, the victim attempted suicide, prompting Ishaq's family to reach out to her, suggesting an amicable resolution. However, Ishaq's elder brother and brother-in-law allegedly informed her that conversion to Islam was necessary for marriage.

They supposedly instructed her to learn how to perform namaz (prayers) within 40 days, asserting that discussions about marriage would only take place after conversion.

This case has sparked controversy, with Hindu organizations approaching the victim's family, labeling it a case of 'love jihad' and demanding justice. The police are treating the situation with utmost seriousness and are actively investigating.

The BJP has claimed that instances of 'love jihad' are increasing in Karnataka due to the Congress-led government's 'appeasement politics'.

Former minister and BJP MLC C.T. Ravi has called upon Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to establish a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to thoroughly examine all cases of 'love jihad', 'land jihad', and 'vote jihad'.

Karnataka BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra has also voiced concerns about the rise in love jihad cases in the state, suggesting it is following a worrying trend similar to that of Kerala due to 'minority appeasement' policies by Siddaramaiah.

Vijayendra stated, 'Those who perpetrate crimes against women and engage in anti-social activities believe the state government will protect them due to its reluctance to take action, even in blatant cases like raising 'Pakistan Zindabad' slogans at the Vidhana Soudha.' He added that this approach jeopardizes law and order, instilling fear among Hindu families and women.
