Rape Allegation Against BJP Official in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Jan 7 (NationPress) The police in Bengaluru have initiated a rape case against a BJP official after a woman lodged a complaint, as stated by law enforcement on Tuesday.

Law enforcement officials reported that the accused, Somashekar J alias Gym Soma, a member of the BJP, allegedly enticed the victim to his residence with the promise of a loan to assist with her upcoming marriage and subsequently committed the act.

The Ashokanagar police have registered the FIR and are actively searching for the perpetrator. The victim submitted her complaint three months post the occurrence of the incident.

The 26-year-old victim, in her statement, revealed that she became acquainted with the accused through a mutual friend. She had arranged her marriage last year and approached Somashekar for financial assistance.

The accused had purportedly offered her Rs 6 lakh in cash. The victim claimed that Somashekar collected her from her PG hostel and took her to his apartment on Langford Road in Bengaluru. He allegedly coerced her into consuming alcohol before assaulting her.

Furthermore, the victim alleged that the accused threatened her, stating that if she disclosed the incident to anyone, he would harm her and damage her reputation.

The police noted that Somashekar had previously run for the 2018 Assembly elections on a BJP ticket but was unsuccessful. Investigations are ongoing, and more information is expected to surface.

This incident poses a challenge for the BJP in the state, which has been at odds with the ruling Congress party over numerous matters.

Recently, BJP MLA N. Munirathna Naidu was incarcerated in connection with an alleged rape and honey-trapping case, although he was released on bail after a month. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is currently examining the case.

The victim of the Munirathna case stated, "The BJP MLA compelled me to engage in honey traps. He threatened to kill me to ensure the task was completed."

Former Congress MP D.K. Suresh, who is the brother of Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar, accused Munirathna of attempting to expose his opponents to HIV and called for a government investigation into the allegations. Munirathna has denied the accusations, asserting that it is a conspiracy aimed at politically undermining him.
