Bengaluru, May 21 (NationPress) The Karnataka Police have initiated an FIR against BJP MLA N. Munirathna, who serves the RR Nagar Assembly constituency in Bengaluru, on allegations of orchestrating the gangrape of a party worker.
The FIR was filed by the RMC Yard police in Bengaluru following a complaint from a 40-year-old victim.
In addition to MLA Munirathna, his associates Vasantha, Channakeshava, Kamal, and an unidentified person have been named as co-accused.
As per the FIR, the victim's statement was recorded at a hospital in Bengaluru, where she is currently receiving treatment.
The victim alleges that in 2013, Munirathna accused her of prostitution and had her jailed out of personal vendetta.
After her release, she claims the MLA targeted her again, having his associates wrongly implicate her in a murder case, leading to another imprisonment.
She was released on bail after a month.
On June 11, 2023, around 7 p.m., the second and fourth accused purportedly visited the victim's residence, promising that pending charges against her would be dropped if she accompanied them to Munirathna's office.
The complainant alleges that she was sexually assaulted at Munirathna's office.
The FIR states: "The MLA got her raped by the first, second, and third accused. Subsequently, Munirathna urinated on her face and injected her with a substance, claiming she would suffer for the rest of her life."
The FIR further mentions that the MLA warned her against disclosing any details of the incident and instructed his associates to return her home.
On January 14, 2025, the victim began to suffer from severe abdominal pain. Following a blood test, doctors diagnosed her with a virus, confirmed at Victoria Hospital.
Further medical consultations indicated she has an incurable disease, according to the FIR.
Overwhelmed by the pain, the victim reportedly took sleeping pills on the night of May 19. A neighbor discovered her and took her to the hospital.
The FIR has been registered under IPC Sections 376D (gang rape), 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 354 (assault or criminal force to outrage modesty), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).
