Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Friday, 25 September 2026, inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 79 development projects worth ₹738.09 crore across Bhavnagar city and district. Among the highlights was the opening of a newly constructed Collector Office built at a cost of ₹33 crore, equipped with modern facilities aimed at improving citizen access to public services.

Campaign Behind the Push

The projects were undertaken as part of the 'Seva, Sankalp and Samarpan' campaign, organised to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing 25 years of public service. Inaugurations and foundation-stone layings were carried out through e-inauguration and e-foundation stone-laying ceremonies, reflecting the state's push toward digital governance.

What Chief Minister Patel Said

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Patel emphasised the state government's commitment to ensuring that benefits of government schemes reached every eligible citizen. 'Along with development, cleanliness, environmental conservation and the welfare of the last-mile citizen are priorities of the state government,' he said. He also stressed the importance of water conservation and groundwater recharge, urging citizens to participate in the 'Catch the Rain' initiative and to plant trees under 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam'. Invoking the government's 'Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi' approach, Patel said sustainable development required preservation of culture, values and the environment.

Key Announcements by Ministers

Minister of State Nimuben Bambhaniya noted that the new Collector Office would make public services more accessible. She also highlighted that the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway was emerging as a critical connectivity link for Bhavnagar, while a planned SIPPA centre would provide preparation support for aspirants of GPSC and UPSC examinations. She added that land allocated for a Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) unit at Nari would generate further employment in the IT sector.

State Agriculture Minister Jitu Vaghani announced that approval had been granted for a ₹650 crore bridge project to strengthen Bhavnagar's connectivity and reduce traffic congestion. 'The project would facilitate travel towards Rajkot, Somnath, Dholera and other areas,' he said. Vaghani added that development at Alang and Dholera, combined with growing industrial momentum, positioned Bhavnagar for new employment and investment opportunities in the coming years.

Project Breakdown and Beneficiaries

Of the 79 projects, 30 belong to the Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation, accounting for ₹621.63 crore. One Roads and Buildings Department state project is valued at ₹13.19 crore, while 46 works under the Roads and Buildings Department–Panchayat account for ₹57.03 crore. Projects worth ₹13.24 crore under the Regional Commissioner of Municipalities were also included. At the programme, kits were distributed to five beneficiaries under the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana, 13 sanitation workers were felicitated, and symbolic house keys were handed over to five beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Officials noted that over 10,000 people had been assessed and around 14 camps organised under the Vayoshri Yojana, with assistive devices provided free of cost to senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

Broader Significance for Bhavnagar

The investment comes at a moment of rising strategic importance for Bhavnagar, with the Dholera Special Investment Region and Alang ship-recycling cluster drawing increasing industrial interest. Analysts have noted that improved road, administrative, and digital infrastructure would be prerequisites for the district to capture that investment flow. The ₹650 crore bridge project, if executed on schedule, could prove particularly consequential for logistics and commuter connectivity.
