Patna, Dec 13 (NationPress) The Bihar Excise Department executed a significant operation on Saturday, leading to the confiscation of a substantial shipment of foreign liquor that was being illegally brought from Haryana for distribution during the upcoming New Year festivities.

The driver of the pickup truck, which was carrying the liquor, was apprehended on-site.

According to Excise Inspector Deepak Kumar, a tip-off indicated that a considerable amount of foreign liquor had entered Muzaffarpur from Uttar Pradesh and was on its way to Sitamarhi.

In response to this intelligence, a specialized team from the Excise Department was formed, and a blockade was established near Janar Chowk in the Aurai police station jurisdiction along the Muzaffarpur–Sitamarhi main road.

“Upon signaling the pickup truck, which was traveling from Muzaffarpur towards Sitamarhi, to halt, the driver attempted to escape. However, after a brief pursuit, the excise team managed to stop the vehicle,” he stated.

Upon inspection, the pickup truck was found to be loaded with a significant quantity of foreign liquor, cleverly concealed beneath everyday household items.

The driver, identified as Rinku Kumar, hails from Shyamnagar in the Farrukhabad district of Uttar Pradesh, and was arrested at the scene.

Excise Inspector Deepak Kumar mentioned that further investigations are underway following an interrogation of the detained driver, with efforts being made to uncover additional individuals involved in the liquor smuggling network.

Previously, on Friday, a team from the Muzaffarpur police seized a large cache of illegal foreign liquor from a luxury car near the Pokhrera toll plaza under the Karja police station area, leading to the arrest of two smugglers, including the vehicle's owner.

Station House Officer Deepak Kumar Singh reported that they received confidential information about a white luxury car carrying a significant shipment of illegal liquor traveling from Uttar Pradesh through Chhapra to Muzaffarpur.

Taking this tip seriously, a rapid response police team was assembled, and a thorough checking operation was initiated near the Pokhrera toll plaza.

During this operation, when the suspicious vehicle was halted and searched, authorities discovered that the smugglers had cleverly hidden the liquor in various locations, including beneath the car seats and inside the trunk. Ultimately, 11 cartons of illegal foreign liquor were seized from the vehicle.

The detained suspects have been identified as Sumir Kumar, the car's owner, and Sushant Kumar, a liquor trader, both residing in Sitamarhi district and revealed to be cousins.

The SHO indicated that ongoing monitoring and specialized operations are being conducted across all police precincts in the district to ensure the strict enforcement of Bihar’s total prohibition policy.

“This operation is part of our continued efforts,” he affirmed.
