Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Union Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, visited Munger to assess the condition of families displaced by Ganga flooding and review ongoing relief operations. Inspection at Sitakund Relief Camp

The two leaders visited the flood relief camp set up at the High School in Sitakund under Sadar block, Munger, where they interacted directly with displaced families. They heard grievances and sought feedback on essential relief arrangements — including drinking water, cooked food, and medical services — and personally oversaw meal distribution at the facility.

What the Chief Minister Assured

Chief Minister Choudhary reaffirmed that the state government stood firmly with those affected by the natural calamity. 'Displaced and affected families would receive financial and material assistance in accordance with established government norms,' he said, adding that efforts were under way to help families return to normal life 'as soon as possible'. He also assured that losses to houses, livestock, and private property would be compensated under applicable norms.

Focus on Crop Damage Assessment

Union Agriculture Minister Chouhan stated that both the central and state governments were committed to supporting flood-hit farmers. The Agriculture Department is conducting a detailed survey of damage to paddy, maize, and vegetable crops, with field officials directed to complete the process without delay. Once assessment data are finalised, eligible farmers are to receive compensation directly in their bank accounts as per government norms.

Multi-Department Relief Stalls and Official Directives

During the visit, Choudhary and Chouhan reviewed assistance stalls established by the Health, Public Health Engineering, and Animal Husbandry departments. They checked the distribution of relief packets, water tanker supply, and availability of medicines with divisional and district officials. The two leaders directed authorities to ensure that relief and rescue operations continued without negligence, stressing that dry rations, cooked food, and medicines must reach every affected family — particularly those in vulnerable and remote areas.

After concluding the Munger inspection, Chief Minister Choudhary returned to Patna as per his scheduled programme, while Agriculture Minister Chouhan proceeded to Bhagalpur for a further assessment of the flood situation in that district. The sequential visits suggest authorities are widening their on-ground review across multiple flood-affected districts along the Ganga belt.
