Patna, Feb 2 (NationPress) The government led by Nitish Kumar introduced the Economic Survey for 2025–26 in the Bihar Legislative Assembly on Monday, showcasing consistent growth across various sectors and setting an ambitious vision to transform Bihar into a developed state within the coming five years.

Upon presenting the survey, Finance Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav emphasized the government’s swift progress toward this objective, stating that the forthcoming Budget will embody this vision.

“Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is determined to elevate Bihar to a developed state in five years. Bihar deserves to be prosperous and affluent. We are making rapid advancements in this direction, and tomorrow's budget will reflect this progress,” remarked Yadav.

The Economic Survey highlighted that Bihar's per capita income has surged to Rs 76,490 in 2024–25, showcasing a steady upward trajectory.

In addition, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) Anand Kishore revealed that Bihar’s economic growth rate exceeds the national average by 3.3 percent, while maintaining control over the state’s fiscal deficit.

According to preliminary estimates for 2024–25, Bihar’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) expanded by 8.6 percent at constant prices (2011–12 base year), reaching Rs 5.31 lakh crore, and by 13.1 percent at current prices, amounting to Rs 9.91 lakh crore.

“Our GSDP growth rate at current prices is 13.1 percent, outpacing the national average of 9.8 percent. This indicates that Bihar's growth is 3.3 percent above the national level,” stated Anand Kishore.

The survey further indicated that per capita GSDP at current prices rose from Rs 46,412 in 2020–21 to Rs 76,490 in 2024–25, while per capita GSDP at constant prices increased from Rs 30,159 to Rs 40,973 in the same timeframe.

On the revenue side, the state government’s receipts saw a significant rise from Rs 1.28 lakh crore in 2020–21 to Rs 2.18 lakh crore in 2024–25.

The revenue composition also demonstrated improvement; the tax revenue share increased from 70 percent to 84 percent, while the non-tax revenue share decreased from 5 percent to 2 percent, and grants-in-aid fell from 25 percent to 14 percent.

The Economic Survey emphasizes growing fiscal self-sufficiency and sustained economic momentum as the state prepares for its budget presentation on Tuesday.
