Hyderabad, April 18 (NationPress) Union Minister for Coal and Mines and Telangana BJP President G. Kishan Reddy claimed on Friday that the Congress and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) are refraining from contesting the MLC election in the Hyderabad local authorities’ constituency purely to undermine the BJP.

He accused both parties of colluding with the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).

While addressing a gathering of BJP leaders regarding the MLC elections, Kishan Reddy stated that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and BRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao lack the moral authority to criticize the BJP.

He challenged Rahul Gandhi to explain why the Congress, which currently holds power in Telangana, is not participating in the MLC election. He also questioned why the BRS, which contested in the Lok Sabha elections, is abstaining from the MLC polls.

“They have labeled the BJP as communal, yet they are collaborating with the Majlis to assist it in securing MLA and MLC positions,” he remarked.

The Union Minister noted that three family-centric parties have united to challenge the BJP.

Affirming that the BJP is a nationalist entity, Kishan Reddy asserted that it is the only party battling against the Majlis, which he claims carries the legacy of the ‘Razakars’.

He alleged that during BRS’s tenure, development was prioritized only in regions where its leaders had real estate interests.

The BJP leader asserted that industries are flocking to Hyderabad and Telangana due to initiatives spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, predicting rapid development for Telangana once the BJP assumes power.

The election for a single seat in the Telangana Legislative Council from the Hyderabad local authorities' constituency is set for April 23.

BJP’s N. Goutham Rao is engaged in a direct contest with AIMIM’s Mirza Riyaz Ul Hasan Effendi.

AIMIM, led by Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, appears to be in a favorable position to secure the seat.

The constituency comprises 110 voters, including 75 corporators from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) across 15 Assembly constituencies in Hyderabad district and 35 ex-officio members.

The ex-officio members consist of 15 MLAs, the MPs from Hyderabad and Secunderabad, Rajya Sabha members, and MLCs who have cast their votes in Hyderabad.

The AIMIM holds 49 votes, comprising 40 corporators, seven MLAs, one MP, and one MLC. With the backing of 13 voters from the Congress, Effendi is optimistic about winning the election.

The BRS and BJP possess 25 and 22 votes, respectively.
