Is BJP Set to Triumph in All Five Corporations for GBA Elections?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Feb 7 (NationPress) The Karnataka division of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) convened at the party headquarters on Saturday to devise strategies for the impending elections to the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA).
The meeting was led by prominent leader Ram Madhav, who has been designated as the GBA election convenor. Former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, along with Opposition leaders R. Ashoka and Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, were in attendance, alongside BJP MLAs and MPs.
In a media briefing following the BJP's assembly regarding the GBA elections, BJP State President and MLA B. Y. Vijayendra expressed optimism that the party would secure victory in all five corporations associated with the GBA.
Vijayendra confirmed that the party is confident of winning all five corporations in the forthcoming elections, criticizing the Congress government for its alleged failures in development, corruption, and consistent price increases.
He noted that the party had conducted a thorough review of their electoral chances and reached a consensus that the BJP is poised for a comfortable victory.
“In the past two-and-a-half years, Bengaluru has seen no progress. The ineffective Congress government has stalled all development,” he stated, emphasizing that the citizens would not overlook the progress made during the BJP's governance.
Vijayendra announced that additional meetings are set for February 28 and March 1, with a distinct GBA meeting also planned. “We will gather insights from party members before finalizing candidates,” he said.
Responding to the recent fare hike in the Bengaluru Metro, Vijayendra remarked that the state government was part of the fare-setting committee and cannot evade accountability.
“These decisions are made based on the state's recommendations. The Congress government is attempting to shirk its obligations. Price hikes have become commonplace, causing distress among the people of Karnataka,” he asserted.
In outlining the BJP's agenda for the GBA elections, Vijayendra mentioned that the party would underscore its achievements and highlight the shortcomings of the Congress administration.
He accused Congress leaders, especially D. K. Shivakumar, the Bengaluru in-charge Minister, of internal strife that has hampered governance. “Bengaluru contributes significant tax revenue, yet residents feel neglected. We will address concerns like price hikes and corruption,” he noted.
Commenting on the Cabinet's decision to forgive interest on loans for minorities under a one-time settlement scheme, Vijayendra claimed that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah engages in appeasement politics.
“It seems he has already decided he will be the last Chief Minister from the Congress party. All we see is appeasement politics,” he concluded.
