BJP Labels Congress as Anti-Dalit Amid Rahul Gandhi's Remarks on Entrepreneurial Exclusion
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 8 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly criticized the Congress party, labeling it as having a "Dalit virodhi" (anti-Dalit) stance. This statement follows remarks made by the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, who expressed concerns regarding the "systematic exclusion of Bahujan entrepreneurs" from significant public sector contracts.
The exchange of political rhetoric ensued after Gandhi questioned the government about the allocation of public works contracts, valued at Rs 16,500 crore, awarded in the past year. He requested information on the proportion of these contracts designated for businesses owned by Dalits, Adivasis, and Other Backward Classes.
In response, BJP leaders accused Congress of a longstanding history of marginalizing Dalit communities, dismissing Gandhi's critique of the government's policies.
BJP National Spokesperson C.R. Kesavan, in an interview with IANS, claimed that Congress has persistently exhibited a "Dalit-virodhi mindset" throughout its history.
"From Jawaharlal Nehru to Rahul Gandhi today, the Congress Party has repeatedly disrespected the dignity of the Dalit community. Mallikarjun Kharge, despite being Congress President, has openly expressed his frustrations, stating that the ultimate authority lies with the high command," he stated.
Kesavan further condemned the leadership structure within Congress, asserting, "The first family of the Congress party has reduced the office of the Congress President to a mere rubber stamp, currently occupied by Mallikarjun Kharge."
Continuing his critique, he remarked, "No one can overlook the disrespect shown to Kharge by the Gandhi family when Priyanka Gandhi filed her nomination. They made him wait outside. This is the operational style of Congress. They even denied the Bharat Ratna to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar."
Reaffirming his accusations, Kesavan stated, "The Congress party embodies a 'Dalit-virodhi mindset', a trait that Rahul Gandhi continues to uphold."
Meanwhile, Bihar Minister Dilip Jaiswal also condemned Gandhi's statements. Speaking to IANS, he remarked, "Rahul Gandhi should confront his ancestors—Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi—and inquire why they perpetrated such injustices. Why did Congress fail to secure rights for backward castes?"
