New Delhi, Aug 30 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly criticized Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra for her inflammatory statements regarding Union Home Minister Amit Shah, filing a First Information Report (FIR) against her and labeling her remarks a "stain on democratic values."
On Friday, Moitra suggested that Amit Shah's head should be severed for his inability to prevent the influx of illegal Bangladeshi migrants into India.
A clip of her dialogue with journalists in Bengali has gone viral, leading to significant backlash from BJP officials and triggering legal proceedings. Additionally, a complaint has been lodged against the Krishnanagar MP.
While speaking to the press in Nadia district, Moitra directly accused the Home Ministry of failing to ensure border security.
"If our borders are not secure and infiltrators are entering in droves, disrespecting our women and seizing our land, then Amit Shah's head should be severed and placed on the table," she stated, blaming Shah for attempting to deflect responsibility onto the government of Mamata Banerjee.
In retaliation, Delhi BJP MLA Ravinder Singh Negi submitted a formal complaint at the Madhu Vihar police station in East Delhi against Moitra.
The complaint also implicates Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, referencing a recent incident during the Voter Adhikar Yatra, where supporters of Congress and RJD were observed using derogatory language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the stage.
Negi remarked to IANS, "In a democracy, individuals should not be given the liberty to make insulting comments against the Prime Minister and Home Minister. I oppose this... Mahua Moitra crossed all lines with her derogatory remarks against the Home Minister... They are frustrated since the infiltrators are being repatriated."
BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh also condemned Moitra, describing her statements as a "blot on democratic politics."
"This venomous rhetoric disrespects the people of Bengal and the nation. Issuing such violent threats towards BJP leaders reveals the desperation and chaotic mindset of the INDIA coalition. Mamata Banerjee, as the 'Modern Jinnah,' should clarify whether her party allows democratic discourse or only fosters toxic and violent language," he told IANS.
Chugh further claimed that Moitra's comments were not just an insult to Amit Shah but an attack on the very principles of democracy.
"By disparaging Home Minister Amit Shah, who has fought against terrorism and militancy in our nation, it undermines the democratic traditions of the country and aligns with the Urban Naxal ecosystem," he stated.
Uttar Pradesh Minister Sanjay Nishad also denounced the remarks, telling IANS, "This is purely out of desperation. The public backs PM Modi, Amit Shah, and the NDA. This reflects their frustration. I denounce such statements."
