BJP Criticizes Rahul Gandhi for Choosing Foreign Trip Over Mourning Dr. Manmohan Singh; Congress Fires Back

New Delhi, Dec 30 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday accused the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi of ‘prioritizing’ his New Year holiday over India’s 'architect of economic reforms' late Dr. Manmohan Singh, as numerous reports suggested that the Congress MP has departed overseas to welcome the New Year.
Allegations regarding Rahul Gandhi's foreign trip during the seven-day mourning period following the death of India’s 14th Prime Minister ignited a series of accusations and rebuttals between the BJP and Congress.
This incident follows intense political exchanges between the two parties, initially concerning the alleged disrespect shown to Dr. Singh during his cremation at the Nigambodh Ghat and subsequently regarding senior Congress leaders and the Gandhi family’s absence from the ashes immersion rituals.
Numerous BJP spokespersons, including the party's IT cell chief, took to social media to criticize the Congress MP for traveling abroad while the nation was in mourning for its former Prime Minister.
Amit Malviya expressed his discontent on X, accusing the Congress leader of lacking sensitivity towards Dr. Singh's legacy.
"While the nation mourns the passing of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi has traveled to Vietnam to celebrate the New Year," Malviya tweeted.
In a reference to Operation Blue Star, he added: “The Gandhis and Congress have a history of disdain for the Sikhs. Never forget that Indira Gandhi desecrated the Darbar Sahib."
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla also criticized the Congress for disrespecting and insulting the former Prime Minister, both during his life and after his passing.
“While the nation mourns Dr. Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi has chosen to travel abroad to celebrate the New Year even as the country observes a seven-day mourning period. The Congress shows no regard for Dr. Manmohan Singh. They have insulted him in life and continue to do so in death,” Poonawalla stated on X.
“Yesterday, no one from Congress went to collect his ashes. Congress even denied Bharat Ratna to Dr. Manmohan Singh as per recent revelations. This is their true nature,” he remarked.
The Congress party was quick to respond, sarcastically advising BJP members to ‘get well in the New Year’.
Congress leader Manickam Tagore took to X to criticize the BJP's ‘diversion tactics’.
"When will the Sanghis cease their ‘Take Diversion’ politics? The manner in which Modi denied Dr. Saheb a proper cremation location on the banks of the Yamuna and how his ministers mistreated Dr. Saheb’s family is disgraceful,” Tagore mentioned.
“If Mr. Gandhi travels privately, why does it concern you? Get well in the New Year,” he concluded.
