BJP Claims Mamata Banerjee’s Anti-SIR Protest is a Charade to Shield Infiltrators
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, March 7 (NationPress) The BJP accused West Bengal's Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, of staging an indefinite sit-in protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) that began on Friday afternoon in Kolkata, labeling it as yet another strategy to shield illegal infiltrators on the state's voters’ list.
Although the Trinamool Congress leadership, spearheaded by Banerjee, initiated this protest at Esplanade East in central Kolkata, there has been no clarity on its duration. However, the scale of the protest setup suggests that it may persist for some time.
“Yesterday, while Mamata Banerjee was present at Dharmatala, a theatrical performance was conducted to defend illegal infiltrators,” stated the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, via his official social media early Saturday.
In his remarks, Adhikari highlighted the ruling party's treatment of victims from the multi-crore cash-for-school job scandal when they approached the protest area to express their legitimate concerns regarding the school-job crisis.
“When the marginalized assistant teachers of West Bengal took their stand in front of the stage to voice their rightful demands, instead of being listened to, they were told, ‘You're doing this due to the BJP’s influence.’ They were even mockingly advised to show their posters to Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The media was also branded as agents of the BJP,” Adhikari claimed.
Referencing this occurrence, Adhikari questioned if the people of West Bengal had any right to express their valid demands.
“Is there not even a trace of right for anyone to protest? Once they protest, they are labeled as agents of various factions. Will the voices of the deprived assistant teachers continue to be silenced year after year?” he pondered.
According to him, the citizens of West Bengal are observant and will respond to the ruling party at the appropriate moment.
“To counter the injustice and deprivation, they must declare - ‘We seek change, we desire a BJP government,’” he concluded.
