Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia on Monday, 21 September 2026 declared that no combination of opposition leaders — including hundreds of Akhilesh Yadavs or thousands of Asaduddin Owaisis — can prevent the BJP from retaining power in Uttar Pradesh in the 2027 Assembly elections. The remarks came in direct response to All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Owaisi's recent appeal to opposition parties to forge a united front ahead of the crucial state polls.

Bhatia's Confidence on UP 2027

Addressing reporters in New Delhi, Bhatia underlined what he called BJP's unassailable ground position in Uttar Pradesh. 'In 2027, the lotus will bloom again. The main issues — law and order is strong, Uttar Pradesh is developing, and when it comes to women's respect and dignity, Yogi Adityanath has taken full care of it,' he said.

Bhatia also took a swipe at opposition leaders, calling them 'lumpen, communal leaders who engage purely in the politics of appeasement,' arguing that their statements deserve neither importance nor attention.

BJP Leaders Pile On: 'Opposition Has Already Accepted Defeat'

BJP MLA Ram Kadam claimed that Owaisi's overtures for an alliance are themselves a sign of capitulation. 'What do all these fearful statements confirm? They show that they have already accepted defeat even before the elections,' he said, also referencing what he described as Akhilesh Yadav's 'harsh words' in recent weeks.

Cabinet Minister Jaiveer Singh struck a similarly dismissive tone, asserting that the BJP's support base is broad enough to withstand any opposition formation. 'More than 50 per cent of the votes and support will be in our favour, and we will form a government with a clear majority,' he said, adding that whether the opposition contests together or separately makes no difference to the ruling party.

Rajbhar, Naqvi, and Shaina NC Weigh In

Ambedkar Nagar Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar urged observers to wait until October 27 before drawing conclusions. He questioned whether AIMIM's alliance bid would gain traction, arguing that mainstream opposition leaders would resist ceding Muslim political leadership to Owaisi. 'Owaisi Ji wants a Muslim to become the Chief Minister, which neither Akhilesh Yadav nor Rahul Gandhi would want,' Rajbhar claimed.

Senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi described Owaisi's alliance appeals as a pre-election ritual with little practical impact. 'No one listens to his plea for an alliance, nor does anyone answer it,' he said.

Shiv Sena spokesperson Shaina NC expressed confidence in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), saying: 'Owaisi ji, put in as much effort and enthusiasm as you want, but the winner will only be Yogi ji and the NDA. You have always engaged in appeasement politics, and voters will not accept that appeasement.'

What Owaisi Actually Said

The BJP's sharp reaction followed comments by AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, who stated that his party is open to working with like-minded political groups ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Owaisi argued that no single political entity can counter the BJP alone, and said AIMIM would announce its next steps on a possible electoral partnership on 2 October.

With the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections due in early 2027, the opposition's ability to consolidate — or fragment — will be critical. Historically, a divided opposition vote has benefited the BJP in the state. Whether AIMIM's outreach finds any takers among the Samajwadi Party or Congress will become clearer after Owaisi's scheduled 2 October announcement. The BJP, meanwhile, appears focused on projecting the Yogi Adityanath government's law-and-order and development record as its primary electoral plank.
