Kolkata, March 14 (NationPress) A local BJP representative from Galsi in the East Burdwan district has expressed frustration over not receiving funds from the West Bengal government's Awas Yojana (Housing Scheme), despite his name being listed as a beneficiary.
The BJP leader, Somnath Ghoshal, conducted a survey in his neighborhood only to find out that orders were given to remove his name from the beneficiary list. He resides with his elderly parents in a mud house, raising questions about how he could be excluded from the program designed to assist those in need.
Ghoshal, who lives in Channa village, serves as the social media in-charge for the BJP in a segment of the Khandaghosh Assembly constituency. He has accused the Trinamool Congress government of unfairly deleting his name from the Awas Yojana records.
He believes that his active use of social media to highlight corruption issues within the Trinamool Congress is the reason behind this decision. Despite confirming his name's presence on the list, Ghoshal found that the promised funds had yet to be transferred to his account. After this revelation, he visited the District Magistrate to file a complaint and was subsequently referred to the Block Development Officer. Unfortunately, he faced numerous bureaucratic barriers and evasions, prompting him to file formal complaints with the authorities.
Ghoshal stated, "My home leaks during the monsoon season. My father's sporadic earnings from priestly duties are what keep our household afloat."
He further claimed that his political engagement has led to legal troubles that have jeopardized his livelihood. His mother, Putul Ghoshal, corroborated his account, indicating that the family lives in a crumbling house on the outskirts of a field, without any form of assistance.
In light of this situation, fellow BJP leader Shantarup Dey commented, "This is a calculated move to undermine their living conditions. Those who refuse to pay 'cut-money' to Trinamool Congress leaders or oppose their corruption face harassment. This cannot go on indefinitely."
On the other hand, Shyama Prasanna Lohar, a Trinamool leader and Sabhadhipati of the Zilla Parishad, stated, "An investigation into this issue is underway. The process is ongoing, and his name could be reinstated after some bureaucratic procedures. All state government programs are meant for everyone, regardless of political affiliation, and no discrimination is practiced."
