Chandigarh, July 23 (NationPress) The son of Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Barala, Vikas Barala, currently facing trial for a stalking incident, has been appointed as Assistant Advocate-General in Haryana, operating from the advocate-general's office in Delhi. He is presently out on bail.
Vikas Barala and his associate Ashish are undergoing trial for allegedly stalking and attempting to kidnap Varnika Kundu, the daughter of a high-ranking IAS officer in Haryana.
The judicial proceedings are set to be revisited in a Chandigarh court on August 2.
This stalking case has drawn significant national attention, raising concerns about women’s safety and the potential influence of political connections on legal matters. In 2017, authorities filed a charge sheet against Vikas Barala and his friend, referencing 48 witnesses.
The primary witnesses include the complainant and her father, Virender Kundu, both determined to pursue justice despite external pressures.
Included in the witness list are Varnika's friend, who was on the phone with her, police officers who responded to the incident, and those who answered her emergency call.
Other notable appointments in the Advocate-General's office encompass Anu Pal, sister of Justice Lisa Gill of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, and several individuals connected to high-profile families.
In total, over 95 law officers have been appointed as Assistant Advocates-Generals, Deputy Advocates-Generals, Senior Deputy Advocates-Generals, and Additional Advocates-Generals.
Addressing claims of political interference in the case involving his son, BJP leader Subhash Barala stated in 2017 that the victim “is like his daughter.” He emphasized the party's commitment to women's rights and freedom.
“Varnika is like my daughter. There is no pressure to influence the investigation. Law should take its own course. BJP is a party which believes in women’s rights and freedom,” he remarked.
