Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Jan 31 (NationPress) The Karnataka chapter of the Bharatiya Janata Party has criticized the Congress-led administration following the bust of a drug manufacturing operation in Mysuru, the district of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
The party claimed that the government has neglected its duty to combat drug trafficking, jeopardizing the futures of young people.
Opposition Leader R. Ashoka issued a warning that the BJP would initiate a statewide protest if the government fails to take appropriate action.
“Should this drug operation, which is ruining the lives of the youth, not be treated with the seriousness it demands and if immediate and strict actions are not put in place, we will have no choice but to escalate our protests against the government,” he stated.
Ashoka asserted that drug trafficking remains rampant in the state. He remarked that the Home Minister's comments in the Belagavi Assembly session demonstrated a lack of urgency.
“When the matter was brought up, the Home Minister nonchalantly noted that drug trafficking is a problem in every state,” he added.
Questioning the effectiveness of state police and intelligence agencies, Ashoka stated, “The Karnataka Police, once recognized for its effectiveness, has been undermined by the Congress government's incompetence. If external agencies are identifying drug operations here, what are the state police and intelligence services doing?”
This criticism arose following the Narcotics Control Bureau's announcement of dismantling a significant inter-state drug trafficking syndicate and uncovering a hidden drug manufacturing facility in Mysuru, Siddaramaiah’s home district.
The NCB reported that drugs valued at approximately Rs 10 crore in the street market were confiscated, along with Rs 25.6 lakh in cash, a Toyota Fortuner, and over 500 kg of chemicals. The facility, located in the Hebbal Industrial Area of Mysuru, has been sealed for forensic investigation.
The NCB indicated that this operation was conducted in accordance with the Centre's initiative for a drug-free India and under the guidance of the Union Home Ministry.
