Bengaluru, Oct 21 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP has announced its intention to challenge the Congress-led state government's decision to dismiss criminal charges against those accused of illegal cow transportation and assaulting police officers in court.

During a media briefing in Bengaluru on Tuesday, R. Ashoka, the Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, openly criticized the government's actions.

“In a recent Cabinet meeting, it was decided to retract cases against 30 individuals implicated in cow killings and beef trafficking in Chittapur taluk of Kalaburagi district,” asserted R. Ashoka.

Ashoka accused a gang, led by one Sheikh Mohisin, of orchestrating these illegal activities. “The police apprehended them in the act of unlawfully transporting cows and brought their vehicle to the police station,” he detailed.

“They subsequently invaded the police station, clashed with officers, and demanded the release of the cows. They even engaged in stone-pelting. A case was registered following these events,” Ashoka elaborated.

He further claimed that Minister for RDPR, IT, and BT, Priyank Kharge, had sent a letter to the government advocating for the release of those involved in illegal cow transport and requested the Cabinet to dismiss the criminal charges against them.

“As a result of this letter, all police cases have been annulled. Previously, cases against assailants who attacked the Hubballi police station were also dismissed. This particular case remains under court investigation following public outcry,” he stated.

Ashoka alleged that Kharge had exonerated the accused in his correspondence, and the Cabinet's decision to withdraw cases stemmed from this.

“This Congress-led government continuously invokes the names of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Gandhi vehemently opposed cow slaughter. In this situation, how can you disregard his principles? This government lacks integrity,” Ashoka condemned.

“If these individuals are released, they will revert to their former activities—cow theft and illegal transport. We will seek judicial intervention, and similar to the Hubballi police station assault case, we trust that justice will be served here as well,” Ashoka affirmed.

In response to claims from Congress leadership that the ban on private organizations conducting public activities was initially enforced by the prior BJP government under CM Jagadish Shettar, Ashoka challenged these assertions.

“Let them present Jagadish Shettar’s signature on any such directive. This is intended to target the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) without explicitly naming it in the Cabinet,” he claimed.

Ashoka concluded, “The ban was never a topic of discussion during our administration. The order was specific to a single school in Bengaluru.

He also remarked on Minister Priyank Kharge’s inquiry regarding the then CM. “I noted Priyank Kharge questioning who the CM was at that time. I would like to pose a question to him—who was the CM when an officer allocated 16 sites to CM Siddaramaiah’s family through the Mysuru Urban Development Authority?”
