New Delhi, March 20 (NationPress) BJP National Spokesperson C. R. Kesavan on Friday commended Congress MP Shashi Tharoor for his observations regarding India’s position in the ongoing West Asia conflict, labeling it a positive evolution in the Opposition's viewpoint.

In response to Tharoor’s insights, Kesavan stated, “It is refreshing to see senior Congress leaders acknowledge the balanced and sophisticated foreign policy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi amidst the global turmoil, especially when compared to Rahul Gandhi's persistent critiques of the administration.”

On the other hand, Samajwadi Party MP Rajeev Kumar Rai took a more reserved stance, separating his party from the internal disputes within Congress. “This is a matter for the Congress to handle. The Samajwadi Party seeks to be a constructive Opposition while adhering to principles of discipline,” he remarked.

Commenting on the West Asia situation and Tharoor's statements, Bihar Minister Shravan Kumar noted, “This issue merits discussion in both Parliament and the Vidhan Sabha... Such dialogues can pave the way for addressing major challenges, facilitating the advancement of the state and the nation...”

These reactions followed Shashi Tharoor's remarks on Thursday, where he characterized India’s approach to the West Asia conflict as an instance of “responsible statecraft” rather than a “moral capitulation.”

In an article featured in the Indian Express, Tharoor proposed that India might have extended condolences for the passing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, similar to the gesture made when the country’s president died in a helicopter accident. Nevertheless, he added, “I will not criticize the government for opting for silence instead of confrontation.”

Tharoor’s comments contrast sharply with various Congress leaders who have condemned the government’s relatively subdued reaction to the conflict, which intensified following US-Israeli airstrikes on Iran on February 28.

His statement has sparked a political discourse, drawing unusual praise from the BJP while revealing divisions within the Congress regarding foreign policy. Analysts suggest that this incident highlights a broader conversation on how India navigates strategic restraint alongside diplomatic communication in a region marked by volatility.
