New Delhi, March 19 (NationPress) Congress MP Shashi Tharoor's recent comments recognizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's diplomatic position on the Russia-Ukraine conflict have sparked both acclaim and dissent across the political landscape.

While BJP representatives praised his acknowledgment of Modi government's approach to the Ukraine-Russia crisis, Congress officials challenged Tharoor on his previous inconsistencies.

During his address at the Raisina Dialogue, Tharoor confessed to having misinterpreted India's role in the situation.

"I am still wiping the egg off my face because I was one of those who criticized India's stance back in February 2022. Three years later, it turns out I was mistaken. India now has a Prime Minister who can embrace both the President of Ukraine and the President of Russia within a fortnight and still be welcomed in both nations. This indicates that India is capable of contributing to enduring peace," he remarked.

BJP MP Sambit Patra appreciated Tharoor's observation and underscored India's diplomatic achievements under Modi's leadership.

"India's diplomacy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is unmatched. He has uniquely positioned India on the international stage. Tharoor, with his experience at the UN, recognizes this and has given it due credit. Congress leaders should take a cue from this rather than persistently opposing PM Modi," Patra stated.

On the contrary, Congress leader Udit Raj dismissed Tharoor's statements, questioning India's impact on international relations.

"Does Tharoor believe he knows more than 140 crore Indians? What else is he occupied with? What notable role has India played in global matters? Does anyone even acknowledge India? Trump taught PM Modi a lesson, yet no one had the courage to speak out. It's NATO or the US that decides. Furthermore, his earlier criticisms of PM Modi—did they make any difference? Did his critique have any real effect?" Raj expressed to IANS.

"Another aspect is that PM Modi maintains a balanced distance from both sides, essentially adhering to the non-alignment policy initiated by Pandit Nehru. Therefore, if anyone deserves recognition, it should be Pandit Nehru, not PM Modi. Tharoor fails to acknowledge that it was a Congress leader who pioneered this policy, which PM Modi ultimately had to accept. I am puzzled by his stance," he added.

Madhya Pradesh Minister Vishvas Sarang also commended Tharoor's comments, indicating that PM Modi has emerged as a globally recognized leader.

"Whenever discussions about ceasefire or peace negotiations arise, the world turns to PM Modi. He is not only a leader for India but a leader on the global stage," Sarang conveyed to IANS.

JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar critiqued Congress, stating to IANS, "The real question is whether any discipline remains within their party. Rahul Gandhi has criticized India on foreign soil, and now his own MPs contradict him. Only he can clarify whether he feels embarrassed or proud."

In a discussion with IANS, BJP MLA Tarvinder Singh Marwah stressed the global admiration for the Prime Minister.

"Not just Tharoor, but world leaders such as Putin, Biden, Trump, and even New Zealand's Prime Minister have lauded PM Modi. Numerous countries have awarded him their highest honors, a feat no Indian PM has achieved before," he remarked.

"Everyone commends PM Modi—some publicly, others privately. Nonetheless, the reality is that he enjoys widespread respect," asserted BJP MLA Karnail Singh.
