New Delhi, March 19 (NationPress) Congress MP Shashi Tharoor's recent comments recognizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's diplomatic approach regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict have sparked both support and criticism across the political landscape.

While BJP leaders appreciated his acknowledgment of Modi's position on the Ukraine-Russia situation, Congress leaders questioned Tharoor's apparent inconsistency.

At the Raisina Dialogue, Tharoor confessed that he had previously misjudged India's stance on the matter.

"I am still wiping the egg off my face because I was one of those who criticized India's position back in February 2022. Fast forward three years, and it turns out I was mistaken. India now has a Prime Minister capable of engaging both the President of Ukraine and the President of Russia within a fortnight, and still enjoys acceptance in both nations. This signifies that India holds the potential to contribute to sustainable peace," he stated.

BJP MP Sambit Patra praised Tharoor's remarks and underscored India's diplomatic progress under Modi's leadership.

"India's diplomacy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is unparalleled. He has effectively positioned India on the global stage. Tharoor, having served at the UN, recognizes this and has given it due acknowledgment. Congress leaders should take note instead of persistently opposing PM Modi," Patra remarked.

Conversely, Congress leader Udit Raj dismissed Tharoor's comments and challenged India's role in international affairs.

"Does Tharoor believe he knows more than 1.4 billion Indians? Does he have nothing better to do? What substantial role has India played globally? Who even acknowledges India's contributions? Trump imparted a lesson to PM Modi, yet nobody dared to speak out. It's NATO or the US that dictates terms. Furthermore, did Tharoor's prior criticisms of PM Modi yield any impactful change?" Raj expressed to IANS.

"Moreover, PM Modi's balanced approach towards both sides adheres to the non-alignment policy initiated by Pandit Nehru. Therefore, if anyone deserves endorsement, it should be Pandit Nehru, not PM Modi. Tharoor fails to recognize that it was a Congress leader who set this policy in motion, which PM Modi ultimately adopted. I’m puzzled by his perspective," he added.

Madhya Pradesh Minister Vishvas Sarang also welcomed Tharoor's statement, asserting that PM Modi has gained recognition as a global leader.

"Whenever ceasefire or peace discussions arise, the world turns to PM Modi. He is not merely India's leader but a prominent figure on the international stage," Sarang informed IANS.

JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar criticized Congress, stating to IANS, "The pressing issue is whether any discipline remains within their party. Rahul Gandhi has criticized India internationally, and now his own MPs are contradicting him. Only he can clarify whether he feels embarrassed or proud."

In a conversation with IANS, BJP MLA Tarvinder Singh Marwah highlighted the global recognition of the Prime Minister.

"Not just Tharoor, but world leaders such as Putin, Biden, Trump, and even New Zealand's Prime Minister have extolled PM Modi. Numerous nations have honored him with their highest accolades, a feat no Indian PM has achieved before," he stated.

"Everyone praises PM Modi—some openly and others privately. The undeniable fact is that he commands widespread respect," asserted BJP MLA Karnail Singh.
