New Delhi, March 31 (NationPress) The head of the Kerala BJP, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, responded on Monday to Congress MP Shashi Tharoor praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his Covid-19 vaccine diplomacy, indicating that Congress leaders have “recently gained insight.”

In an interview with IANS, Chandrasekhar stated, “Shashi Tharoor and several other Congress leaders have recently had a change of heart. They have come to acknowledge that India’s approach during the Russia-Ukraine conflict was appropriate. If you consult anyone globally, they would concur that India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered substantial support to smaller nations during the crisis.”

“Congress leaders were initially in denial, claiming it was not the right approach. However, today, even Congress leaders have started to recognize it. I appreciate their acknowledgment and believe that it is better late than never,” he added.

This statement was made in reaction to Congress MP Tharoor’s recent recognition of the Centre’s ‘Vaccine Maitri’ initiative, which was established amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

In an article for The Week, Tharoor characterized India’s vaccine diplomacy as one of the nation's most notable achievements during the crisis.

“India's vaccine diplomacy amid the Covid pandemic stands out as a notable example of international leadership founded on responsibility and solidarity,” Tharoor stated.

The Congress MP, who previously served as Minister of State for External Affairs during the UPA regime, further noted that the initiative “embodied and contributed to the essence of its soft power.”

Earlier in March, Tharoor commended PM Modi’s stance on the Russia-Ukraine situation, emphasizing the importance of a diplomatic resolution.

He pointed out that PM Modi has persistently supported diplomacy, referencing his remarks in Samarkand where he stated, “This is not an era of war, and solutions can be achieved peacefully.”
