Kolkata, Nov 7 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the West Bengal Assembly and seasoned BJP leader, Suvendu Adhikari, on Friday, alleged that the local administration intentionally excavated the road along the route designated for the BJP's procession celebrating the 150th anniversary of the national anthem, 'Vande Mataram', written by the renowned Bengali author Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay.
The procession was initiated by LoP Adhikari from the Goddess Kali temple at Thanthania in north Kolkata, heading towards the Bankim Chandra Memorial Library at College Street, also situated in north Kolkata.
Upon reaching the College Street intersection, the BJP's procession encountered a group of Congress activists protesting against certain controversial statements allegedly made by some BJP leaders regarding Rabindranath Tagore.
This led to a heated exchange between the two factions. However, a significant clash was averted due to the presence of a large police force at the scene.
As the rally continued towards the Bankim Chandra Memorial Library, LoP Adhikari expressed his frustration over the poor state of the road leading there.
He subsequently accused the local administration of intentionally damaging the road to obstruct the BJP's procession.
"They (Trinamool Congress) purposely excavated the road upon learning that I would be leading the BJP procession. They proclaim to be the great protectors of Bengal, its people, and its culture. Yet, just look at how they are disrespecting Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay by allowing the approach to the library named after him to fall into disrepair. The intellectuals who support the ruling Trinamool Congress should come and witness the state of the road," stated the LoP.
He emphasized that the intentional road excavation to hinder the BJP's procession reveals the narrow-mindedness of the Trinamool Congress and their administration.
"Our sole motto is 'Nation First.' Their (Trinamool Congress) mentality is fundamentally anti-national in essence," he remarked.
