New Delhi, July 20 (NationPress) Following Uddhav Thackeray's accusations regarding internal divisions and procrastination in seat-sharing, Congress's Udit Raj responded by attributing the defeat of the INDIA Bloc in the Maharashtra Assembly elections to the Election Commission's inaction on voter fraud.
“The core problem was farziwadi (fraud) - millions of fake voters were registered. We noticed a suspicious rise in voting percentages after 5 PM, yet the EC has remained silent,” stated Udit Raj.
Previously, Uddhav Thackeray had directly pointed fingers at internal discord, delays in candidate selection, and personal disputes among Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) members for the alliance's disappointing results in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections, despite a robust showing in the Lok Sabha polls just months prior.
In an honest conversation with the party's publication ‘Saamana’, Thackeray conceded that the alliance struggled to sustain its momentum after the Lok Sabha elections, accusing MVA partners of prioritizing personal ambitions over a united front.
“Post-Lok Sabha elections, the MVA turned into a stage for individual party agendas. This resulted in confusion, unclear messaging, and ultimately, our defeat,” Thackeray expressed during his interview with Saamana Executive Editor Sanjay Raut, a member of Rajya Sabha.
He emphasized that delays in candidate finalization and the lack of a unified campaign strategy led to uncertainty among voters, causing them to lose trust in the opposition alliance.
“When voters observe allies moving in conflicting directions, it diminishes their confidence. Our disunity granted the BJP an advantage,” he remarked.
Thackeray's comments come at a pivotal moment, with the critical Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections approaching.
Speculation is rising that Shiv Sena (UBT) may choose to contest the civic polls independently rather than collaborate with Congress.
In the meantime, BJP representatives have capitalized on Thackeray's statements. Party spokesperson RP Singh mentioned, “Uddhav Thackeray has finally acknowledged the reasons for their loss - Rahul Gandhi lacked a plan, and the alliance was directionless. Now, they are blaming EVMs and the Election Commission.”
With the INDIA Bloc experiencing internal tensions and significant partners like AAP distancing themselves, Thackeray's candid evaluation could exacerbate the fractures in the opposition coalition ahead of forthcoming challenges.
