Accusations of violence against Congress candidates.
Dismissed claims about Gaurav Gogoi's ties to Pakistan.
Confidence in Congress's electoral performance.
Promise of justice within 100 days for cultural issues.

Guwahati, March 31 (NationPress) Congress representative Mira Borthakur fiercely criticized the BJP's election manifesto for the forthcoming elections in Assam, labeling it as a “simple showpiece” and highlighting a significant disparity between what has been promised and what has been executed.

In her remarks to IANS, Borthakur pointed out that the BJP's vision document outlines several pledges, such as protecting Assam and expelling infiltrators. However, she argued that these commitments have not been realized in actionable terms.

“They have made numerous declarations in their manifesto, yet no substantive work has been accomplished,” she stated, challenging the ruling party's performance history.

She also condemned the alleged assault on a Congress candidate, accusing BJP affiliates of engaging in violent behavior.

“Such conduct is intolerable. We categorically denounce the attack on our candidate,” Borthakur asserted, demanding accountability and a just electoral environment.

Addressing the allegations concerning Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi's supposed property ties to Pakistan, Borthakur dismissed these accusations as politically motivated.

She contended that Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is making such statements out of fear of losing political influence.

“He is concerned that Gaurav Gogoi is amassing support and might rise to power, hence his remarks,” she noted.

Regarding the electoral contest, Borthakur expressed confidence in the Congress party's prospects, affirming that the party continues to maintain strength across various constituencies.

She predicted that senior leader Pradyut Bordoloi would fall to a third position, while indicating that figures like Jayanta Das would be significant contenders in a closely contested race.

Touching on cultural matters, Borthakur mentioned renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, promising that justice would be delivered within 100 days if Congress assumes power.

“Congress fulfills its commitments. Zubeen Garg is a beloved figure in Assam and is not owned by any individual,” she emphasized.

As both BJP and Congress exchange sharp accusations, the political landscape in Assam intensifies in anticipation of the upcoming elections.

Point of View

The ongoing political tensions in Assam illustrate the critical role of accountability in governance. The discourse surrounding the BJP's election manifesto raises fundamental questions about the effectiveness of political promises and the need for a fair electoral process.
