Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, March 17 (NationPress) The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has officially issued a show-cause notice to its former MLA, Pilot Rohith Reddy, following his arrest alongside several others for purported drug use during a party at his farmhouse in Moinabad, situated near Hyderabad, on March 14.
In light of the serious nature of the allegations, the BRS took decisive action by issuing a notice on Tuesday, instructing Reddy to provide a detailed written account within the next seven days.
Rohith Reddy, who previously represented the Tandu constituency, was arrested along with Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MP Putta Mahesh Kumar and nine others during a raid conducted by the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE).
Of those apprehended, six individuals, including both the MP and the former MLA, tested positive for illegal substances. While the MP and seven others were granted station bail the following day, Rohith Reddy, his brother Ritish Reddy, and a businessman from Delhi, Namith Sharma, were placed under judicial custody for a period of 14 days.
Acting on the orders of BRS President and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, party General Secretary Soma Bharat Kumar issued the notice to Rohith Reddy.
He has been instructed to refrain from participating in any party activities until the situation is resolved.
The notice elaborates that, based on various reports and credible sources, the party leadership has become aware of accusations regarding drug consumption at the gathering he attended. The extensive media coverage surrounding this incident has adversely affected the party's reputation and sparked public unease.
As a responsible political entity, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi remains dedicated to upholding legal and ethical standards. The party categorically disapproves of any illegal activities, especially the use of narcotics or any association with such substances.
The allegations concerning Reddy’s involvement in this matter pose a threat to the party's integrity, prompting the BRS to treat this issue with utmost seriousness.
The notice concludes, “In accordance with the directives from Party President K. Chandrasekhar Rao, you are required to submit a clear and comprehensive written explanation regarding the allegations against you within seven days of receiving this notification.”
Furthermore, it states that failure to provide a satisfactory response within the specified timeframe will result in disciplinary measures being taken against him in line with the Party Constitution and Code of Conduct.
In a related development, the TDP issued a comparable notice to its MP from Eluru on March 15, mandating him to submit a detailed clarification within five days. TDP National President and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has also directed Mahesh Kumar to refrain from party activities until a decision is reached.
