BRS Leaders Detained at Home Prior to Demonstration

Hyderabad, Dec 6 (NationPress) Key figures of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) faced house arrest on Friday in Hyderabad prior to their anticipated demonstration against the detainment of MLAs and other party leaders.

Among those detained were Member of Legislative Council K. Kavitha and former minister T. Harish Rao.

The opposition party had initiated a call for protest at the 125-feet statue of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar located near the State Secretariat to denounce what they describe as unlawful detentions of their leaders.

In response to the protest announcement, police heightened their vigilance. Officers were stationed outside the residences of prominent leaders to obstruct their departure for the demonstration.

Quthbullapur MLA K. P. Vivekanand was confined at his home in Kompally, while Kukatpally MLA Madharam Krishna Rao was also subjected to house arrest.

In Dundigal Mandal of Medchal Malkajgiri district, Shambipur Raju was similarly placed under house arrest. Additionally, Korutla MLA Sanjay and R. S. Praveen Kumar were also detained at home.

Huzurabad MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy, who was arrested on Thursday and later granted bail, found himself under house arrest as well.

The police also reinforced security at the BRS headquarters, Telangana Bhavan, to prevent any mobilization at the protest site.

The BRS has accused the Congress government of employing undemocratic tactics by arresting its MLAs and public representatives.

On Thursday, police took Kaushik Reddy into custody for allegedly threatening an officer.

He faced allegations on Wednesday for intimidating a Station House Officer at Banjara Hills Police Station.

Former ministers Harish Rao, Jagadish Reddy, MLA K. Prabhakar Rao, Shambipur Raju, and other BRS leaders were also detained when they attempted to visit Kaushik Reddy's residence. They were taken to various police stations in the city and held until evening.

Meanwhile, Harish Rao expressed outrage over the detentions of party leaders and activists across the state.

The BRS leader criticized the house arrests and detentions while party leaders were en route to Dr. Ambedkar's statue to pay respects to the architect of the Indian Constitution on his death anniversary.

Harish Rao claimed that the Congress government has enforced an "undeclared emergency" in the state, despite declaring a celebration for the first year of people's rule. The BRS leaders argue that the arrests highlight the "dictatorial and autocratic" nature of the government.

He insisted on the immediate release of all detained BRS leaders and activists.
