Hyderabad, Jan 13 (NationPress) Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA P. Kaushik Reddy was taken into custody on Monday for causing a disturbance and for his alleged misconduct towards Jagtial MLA M. Sanjay Kumar during a District Review Committee (DRC) meeting in Karimnagar on Sunday.

A contingent of police from Karimnagar apprehended Kaushik Reddy in Hyderabad as he was heading home after participating in a program on a television network.

The representative from Huzurabad was being transported to Karimnagar.

Previously, three separate cases were filed under various legal provisions against Kaushik Reddy at the Karimnagar One Town Police Station due to his disruptive behavior with Sanjay Kumar during the DRC meeting.

The police initiated a case based on a complaint from Sanjay Kumar’s Personal Assistant. Another complaint was lodged by the Revenue Divisional Officer (DRO) against Kaushik Reddy for instigating a disturbance. A third case stemmed from a complaint by Sathu Mallesham, Chairman of Zilla Grandalaya Samastha, who accused the MLA of being disrespectful towards him.

During the DRC meeting on Sunday, Kaushik Reddy engaged in a heated exchange with Sanjay Kumar and attempted to interrupt the latter’s address.

Chaos ensued when Kaushik Reddy moved towards Sanjay Kumar while he was speaking, questioning the party he represented. He also made disparaging comments about Sanjay Kumar for switching allegiance to the ruling Congress party after being elected on a BRS ticket in the 2023 Assembly elections.

Kaushik Reddy also tried to seize the microphone from Sanjay, resulting in a fierce argument. The two MLAs were on the verge of a physical altercation, causing pandemonium in the meeting which was attended by Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu, and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar.

The police intervened and removed Kaushik Reddy from the meeting area.

Later, the BRS MLA remarked to the press that Sanjay Kumar ought to resign as an MLA and run for a by-election.

In the meantime, BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao has denounced the arrest of Kaushik Reddy, labeling it a vile and undemocratic act. Rama Rao asserted that the routine filing of unlawful cases and the detention of BRS leaders has become a pattern under the Revanth Reddy-led government. He accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of resorting to such ‘despicable’ tactics to mask his inadequacies as Chief Minister. The BRS leader claimed the MLA was arrested for challenging the government’s failures.
