Did Telangana Police Officers and IAS Association Condemn BRS MLA’s Remarks?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, Jan 30 (NationPress) The Telangana Police Officers’ Association and the IAS Officers’ Association have strongly criticized the comments made by BRS MLA P. Kaushik Reddy targeting Karimnagar Police Commissioner Gaush Alam.
They urged the MLA to retract his statements and issue an apology to the Commissioner and the other police personnel.
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA from Huzurabad made these remarks on Thursday after police prevented him from traveling to his hometown Veenavanka in Mulugu district to participate in the Sammakka Saralamma Maha Jatara.
The MLA, accompanied by family and supporters, initiated a protest on the highway in Huzurabad after being stopped by the police, who cited specific directives aimed at controlling a large vehicle convoy to avoid overcrowding and maintain public order.
Following a confrontation with the police, who dispersed the group from the road, Kaushik Reddy continued to argue with the officers near the goddess Sammakka altar at the Jatara location in Veenavanka.
The BRS leader claimed that the village’s female sarpanch was denied the opportunity to offer a coconut at the altar, an assertion the police refuted. He was subsequently escorted to the Saidapur police station but was released later.
On Friday, the Huzurabad police filed charges against the MLA for allegedly verbally abusing and obstructing police officials from carrying out their duties.
An FIR was registered against him under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Gopireddy Yedula, President of the Telangana Police Officers’ Association, denounced the inappropriate remarks made by the MLA towards the police officers executing the High Court's orders.
He noted that it was unfortunate that, during the election code's enforcement, the MLA not only traveled in a group but also attempted to defy court orders and disrupt peace.
Despite police officers thoroughly explaining the situation and court orders to the MLA, his unacceptable conduct, particularly towards female officers, is indefensible.
“It is highly inappropriate for a responsible MLA to invoke the religion of police officers. The remarks he made, referencing the Karimnagar Police Commissioner who was not present, and involving his religion are completely unacceptable,” he stated.
The IAS Officers’ Association expressed its dismay over the 'defamatory and communal' comments made by Kaushik Reddy against the Karimnagar Police Commissioner.
“It is deeply regrettable that while officers were upholding the law, the legislator resorted to a personal attack based on religious identity, making unfounded claims of proselytization. Such rhetoric is factually incorrect and directly undermines the secular values and professional integrity of the Indian Police Service. The Association firmly supports Sri Gaush Alam and demands an immediate public apology from the MLA. We also urge legislative authorities to treat this breach of conduct with the seriousness it deserves,” the Association stated.
In response, Kaushik Reddy clarified that any provocative words were unintentional. He also expressed that if anyone was offended, he extends his apologies.
“I hold the police and officials in high esteem, but while en route to the Sammakka Saralamma Jatara, we faced obstruction and significant pressure. In that moment of frustration, words slipped out inadvertently. They were not meant to be offensive,” he concluded.
