KTR Supports Drug Tests for Political Leaders
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, March 15 (NationPress) K.T. Rama Rao, the working president of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), expressed his willingness to undergo a drug test on Sunday. “I have consistently stated my readiness for any examination. I fully support Mahesh Kumar Goud’s proposal for public officials from all political parties to participate in this test. Let’s set a precedent,” KTR shared on ‘X’.
This statement followed a challenge from B. Mahesh Kumar Goud, the president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), urging him and all BRS members to take a drug test alongside Congress representatives as the Assembly session commences on Monday.
The challenge arose after former BRS MLA Pilot Rohit Reddy, a TDP MP from Andhra Pradesh, and four others tested positive for drug use following a police raid at a farmhouse in Moinabad late Saturday night.
KTR asserted that anyone involved in the use or distribution of drugs should face legal consequences, regardless of their political background. “Drugs transform individuals into monsters. It is regrettable that even those in esteemed positions are engaging in drug use. I am firmly against drugs and illegal substances. My party, BRS, denounces drug use and any unlawful activities. Those who engage in drug use or trafficking should be severely punished according to the law, irrespective of political ties,” KTR stated.
“However, I strongly denounce the attempts to involve the BRS party in this deeply troubling situation. Using the drug issue to settle political scores with BRS reveals the pathetic nature of your politics,” he added.
KTR cautioned that any attempt to associate his name with “any and every drug case will be met with legal action.”
This response was prompted by allegations from multiple Congress leaders accusing KTR and other BRS officials of drug use.
Following a raid by the EAGLE team at a farmhouse in Moinabad near Hyderabad, six individuals, including TDP MP Putta Mahesh Kumar and Rohit Reddy, were found to have tested positive for drugs.
The EAGLE team subsequently handed the six over to Moinabad police, who are expected to present them before a magistrate later today.
