On Thursday morning, ASI Singh entered the fuel storage facility when a blaze erupted, spreading rapidly and leaving him unable to escape, which resulted in severe burns. Despite the efforts of fellow BSF personnel and local residents to rescue him, they were unsuccessful.
Initial reports from the police indicate that the fire ignited unexpectedly while fuel was being transferred to a speedboat from the storage room.
Authorities from the Hasnabad police station responded promptly upon learning of the incident. Both BSF members and local citizens attempted to extinguish the flames, but the fire's intensity was overwhelming.
Eventually, the fire brigade arrived on the scene and managed to bring the situation under control. ASI Singh was rescued and transported to Basirhat Sub-divisional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical staff.
According to Sandeep Das, Officer-in-Charge of Hingalganj Police Station, "A fire incident occurred at the BSF camp. An ASI of BSF died. The name of the deceased jawan is Jyotiram Singh. The body has been sent for post-mortem. We are conducting an inquiry."
In a separate incident, a central paramilitary force member assigned to Assembly election duties died under unclear circumstances in Falta, South 24 Parganas district on Tuesday night. The deceased was identified as constable Kanak Koch of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). Initial police investigations suggest he fell from stairs, resulting in fatal injuries.
