Thiruvananthapuram, June 10 (NationPress) In a devastating bus mishap in Kenya, six individuals tragically lost their lives, with five victims being from Kerala.
The Indian Embassy in Qatar confirmed the unfortunate event via a post on X, indicating that they are coordinating with local authorities and Indian community groups in Kenya to assist the families of the deceased.
The group comprised 28 Indians, with 14 hailing from Kerala, who had traveled from Qatar for a brief vacation in Kenya.
Reports from Kerala indicate that two individuals from Palakkad, now residing in Qatar, have been confirmed dead, including 41-year-old Riya Ann and her seven-year-old daughter.
Riya’s husband and son sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Kenya.
The identities of the other three deceased individuals from Kerala are still pending confirmation.
Officials from the Kerala Association in Kenya have arrived at the scene, as reported from Nairobi.
The tragic incident occurred at 4:30 p.m. on Monday in the Nyandarua region of northeastern Kenya while the group was en route to Nyahururu town, where they intended to stay at Panari Hotel.
The bus, carrying a total of 32 individuals, including three tour guides and a driver, reportedly lost control on a rain-slicked road, veered off, collided with a tree, and overturned.
“Three of the seriously injured have been transferred to the top hospital in Nairobi. The names and further details of the deceased will be officially announced by the Indian Embassy,” stated Saji Sankar, who is currently in Kenya.
