Barwani, Oct 31 (NationPress) A tragic accident occurred when a bus overturned in Madhya Pradesh's Barwani district, resulting in the death of one passenger and injuries to several others on Friday.
The incident took place in Khetiya town, situated along the left bank of the Narmada River. The bus was carrying pilgrims on their way to 'Prakasha', a revered Hindu pilgrimage site in Nandurbar district, Maharashtra.
The group of pilgrims had traveled from Omkareshwar in the neighboring Khandwa district and were participating in the Narmada Parikrama, a spiritual journey through Barwani. After completing this sacred journey, they were en route to 'Prakasha'.
Upon receiving news of the accident, a Khetiya Police Station team quickly mobilized to rescue the victims, aided by local residents. Injured passengers were transported to a nearby hospital using several ambulances.
Some passengers were trapped in the bus windows and had to be rescued with the help of a crane.
Police suspect that the bus overturned due to excessive speed while making a U-turn.
Distract Collector Jayati Singh reported that the bus was carrying 55 passengers, with one fatality due to severe injuries.
A total of 54 individuals were taken to a government hospital in Khetiya.
The deceased has been identified as Badri Bai (62), according to police reports.
As the condition of at least six injured individuals is critical, the number of casualties may unfortunately rise.
Those in critical condition have been referred to Barwani district hospital for advanced medical care, as stated by Collector Jayanti Singh during her visit to the site.
This incident follows a series of tragic traffic accidents in Madhya Pradesh, including one earlier this month where two individuals lost their lives and 15 were injured when a tractor-trolley overturned in Morena district.
Moreover, last month, five people died after a speeding truck collided with two motorcycles in Bhind district, and another incident in Sidhi district resulted in three fatalities when an SUV hit a stationary container truck.
