Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 7 (NationPress) – On Tuesday, Air India officially announced the resignation of its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Campbell Wilson. The airline disclosed that a committee has been formed to identify a successor in the upcoming months.
According to the airline's statement, Wilson had expressed his desire to resign in 2026 to Air India Chairman N. Chandrasekaran back in 2024, and he has since been working to ensure that the organization and its leadership team are well-prepared for this transition.
“He will continue in his position until a successor is appointed and ready to take over,” the statement noted.
Reflecting on his tenure, Wilson remarked that the four years following Air India’s privatization have been marked by the acquisition and successful integration of four airlines, a shift from public to private sector practices, and a renewal of the leadership team, workforce, culture, and operational methodologies.
“This period has included substantial modernization of systems, the introduction of new physical products, and the enhancement of service standards both on the ground and in the air, along with the addition of 100 new aircraft to the fleet,” Wilson highlighted.
“The comprehensive interior refurbishment of legacy narrowbody aircraft is nearly complete, with deliveries of widebody aircraft featuring custom-designed interiors currently underway,” he added.
Chairman Chandrasekaran expressed appreciation for Wilson’s efforts and contributions to Air India.
“On behalf of the Board, I wish to extend my heartfelt gratitude for Campbell’s leadership and contributions over the past four years,” he stated.
“In addition to the aforementioned advancements, it is important to recognize the various external challenges faced by the Air India team, including prolonged post-Covid supply chain issues that have affected the delivery of new aircraft and retrofit initiatives, as well as significant geopolitical challenges,” he noted.
“Campbell and his team have shown remarkable determination and have unified an organization comprised of diverse backgrounds around a common goal: the emergence of a new Air India,” Chandrasekaran concluded.
