Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Surat, March 6 (NationPress) Late on Thursday night, five individuals were injured when a car, operated by a local physician, lost control and collided with several vehicles on the Pal–Umra Bridge, as reported by the police on Friday.
The incident involved a Honda WR-V being driven by Dr. Viralkant Chaudhary, who resides in Bhatha village and is associated with Life Line Hospital.
According to Dr. Chaudhary, he was heading home around midnight after performing an extensive surgery when his car veered off course, impacting three motorcycles and a tempo.
The injured individuals—Himmatbhai Boricha, Bhavikben Chudasama, Parulben Rathod, Manishaben Rathod, and Prakash Singh—were swiftly transported to Civil and Shayona hospitals for medical attention. Fortunately, all are reported to be in stable condition.
An official from IANS stated: "This accident took place late at night. The doctor indicated that he had just finished a surgery and felt fatigued. Five people have been injured and are currently hospitalized."
"So far, no FIR has been filed; we await the recovery of the injured. The doctor is currently in our custody, and medical tests will be performed to check for alcohol use, alongside a technical examination of the vehicle. CCTV footage from the bridge is also under review," the official added.
An eyewitness noted: “He was speeding and initially hit a tempo. He appeared to be intoxicated.”
Preliminary investigations suggest that fatigue stemming from a late-night surgery may have played a role in the accident. Authorities plan to explore all potential factors once the forensic and medical reports are available.
The collision resulted in temporary traffic delays, which were quickly resolved.
In a separate incident on the same day, a man lost his life following a head-on collision between two motorcycles in the Mota Varachha area.
The crash, captured on CCTV, highlighted the severity of the impact.
The injured motorcyclists were promptly taken to a nearby hospital for care, and police have initiated an investigation into the accident's circumstances.
