Kolkata, March 25 (NationPress) The Border Security Force (BSF) has implemented stringent security protocols resulting in the confiscation of 16 heads of cattle, 851 bottles of Phensedyl syrup, 12.15 kg Ganja, and other illicit items along the Indo-Bangladesh Border (IBB) in the districts of Malda, Murshidabad, Nadia, and North 24-Parganas in West Bengal.

N K Pandey, DIG and Spokesperson for the South Bengal Frontier, BSF, indicated that vigilance is heightened during this period due to a surge in demand for smuggled cattle in Bangladesh prior to Eid.

“A soldier from the 88 Bn BSF, stationed at the Harishchandrapur Border Outpost in Malda, detected several smugglers approaching with cattle from the Indian side at night. He promptly alerted his comrades before confronting the smugglers and ordering them to halt,” he stated.

DIG Pandey mentioned that rather than complying, the smugglers threatened him with sharp objects, prompting the soldier to discharge two rounds from his non-lethal Pump Action Gun (PAG).

“Upon hearing the shots, the smugglers escaped under the cover of night,” he explained.

Subsequent searches in the area resulted in the recovery of seven cattle heads, with three more confiscated at the Agra BOP.

On that same night, two additional cattle heads were seized from another location in Malda, and four from Nadia district.

“The cattle will be e-tagged and transferred to the Dhyan Foundation. The drugs, including Phensedyl and other materials, have been forwarded to the relevant authorities for appropriate legal action,” he added.

He emphasized that BSF personnel are on constant alert to deter smuggling activities along the IBB.

“Smugglers continuously develop new strategies to avoid apprehension, but the unwavering vigilance of BSF personnel, along with tactical operations, ensures that even the most inventive smuggling efforts are effectively thwarted,” concluded DIG Pandey.
