Thiruvananthapuram, March 20 (NationPress) Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the President of the Kerala Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), criticized the Congress party on Friday after Congress leader Shama Mohamed highlighted the inadequate representation of women in the party's ticket distribution for the upcoming state Assembly elections set for April 9.

In a message shared on the social media platform X, Shama Mohamed appealed to Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, asking him to support the Congress women of Kerala.

"While we may be denied, we are not defeated. I respectfully call upon my leader, LoP Rahul Gandhi, whom I hold in high regard, to assist the Congress women of Kerala. Out of 92 tickets, a mere nine were allocated to women in the Congress," she stated.

She further elaborated, "In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, only one woman received a ticket out of the 16 Congress tickets that were distributed. If the chosen woman is indeed talented, the situation is quite grim! It’s very disheartening."

Responding to Mohamed's remarks, Kerala BJP President Chandrasekhar accused the Congress of failing to cultivate talent within its ranks.

He stated, "I am unfamiliar with Shama Mohamed and her background, but it is evident that talent is not a criterion for advancement within the Congress party. If talent were significant, how does one explain D.K. Shivakumar's rise to Deputy Chief Minister in Karnataka? There are clearly other factors influencing growth within the Congress party."

Chandrasekhar continued, "Much of it hinges on one's sycophancy towards the Gandhi family—what you do for them. If you deliver briefcases and large sums of money to the Gandhi family, you can swiftly become a Deputy Chief Minister. This is my perspective, and regrettably, it reflects the views of many within the Congress."

When asked about the prospects for the BJP-led NDA in the forthcoming Kerala Assembly elections, the State BJP President remarked, "With each passing day of our campaign, we (NDA) are receiving a response from the public that exceeds our expectations. This sentiment is not merely about the BJP-NDA, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, or our candidates. The people are expressing a desire for change."

"The residents of Kerala are seeking a new political landscape that fosters development, and this desire is the underlying factor influencing voter decisions in this state election. I have previously stated that this election will be historic," Chandrasekhar concluded.

Point of View

The ongoing debate regarding female representation in political parties, particularly within the Congress, underscores a broader issue of inclusivity in politics. Rajeev Chandrasekhar's remarks reflect a growing sentiment that may influence voter behavior in the upcoming elections, signaling a potential shift in political dynamics in Kerala.
