Chennai, Nov 18 (NationPress) The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has declared that voter assistance centres will be operational throughout the city from Tuesday (November 18) to November 25. These centres are designed to aid voters with inquiries regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) forms, which are currently being distributed as part of the ongoing electoral roll verification initiative.
In an official statement, Corporation Commissioner J. Kumaragurubaran stated that the Special Intensive Revision for the upcoming 2026 General Elections is actively being conducted across all 16 Assembly constituencies in the Chennai district.
Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have been engaging in door-to-door outreach to distribute SIR forms and collect completed submissions from voters. To facilitate this process, the Corporation has established voter help centres at 947 polling stations, which will operate for eight days—from Tuesday through November 25—between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
These centres will provide clarity on the SIR forms, assist voters in verifying their personal details, and help locate voter and family information from the 2005 electoral roll, which serves as a reference point during this revision.
Senior citizens and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to visit the centres accompanied by a companion. Officials will also scrutinize the documents accompanying the forms and verify the submitted voter details.
The Commissioner emphasized the vital contribution of polling agents from recognized political parties in ensuring the effective implementation of the SIR process.
According to the guidelines from the Election Commission of India, polling agents are permitted to gather and submit up to 50 completed SIR forms per day until the draft electoral roll is published.
Upon submitting these forms at polling stations, agents are required to provide a formal acknowledgment and hand them over to the assigned polling officers.
Kumaragurubaran urged voters to leverage the help centres fully to ensure that their details are accurately updated in the electoral roll, thereby enhancing the transparency and efficiency of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision ahead of the 2026 Lok Sabha elections.
