Main Suspect in Chhattisgarh Murder Case Arrested After Five Years
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Ahmedabad, March 21 (NationPress) Almost five years after a murder and robbery incident in 2021 went unsolved in Chhattisgarh, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch has successfully arrested the primary suspect, as confirmed by police on Saturday.
The suspect, known as Ajaykumar, also referred to as Lakshmisagar and Kimtishri Mishra, was captured in the Naroda region of Ahmedabad after evading capture for several years following the crime that took place in Tikrapara, Raipur.
Authorities indicated that the case originated from a long-standing family feud concerning property.
Shakuntala Yadav, the spouse of the late Amar Yadav, resided with her younger son, Amit Yadav, while her elder son, Ajay Yadav, had been living separately since 2017.
As per police reports, frequent disputes between Shakuntala and Amit with Ajay regarding property led them to allegedly plot his assassination.
Amit Yadav, employed at Narayan Hospital in Raipur, encountered Mishra, who was serving as a security guard there.
“Knowing his criminal history, they engaged him to eliminate Ajay Yadav for a sum of Rs four lakh and provided Rs one lakh in cash as an advance,” officials stated.
Authorities revealed that Mishra accepted the advance yet escaped to his hometown without executing the plan.
Several months later, Shakuntala and Amit visited him, compelling him to either fulfill the murder contract or refund the money.
“The suspect promised them that he would complete the task promptly,” officials remarked.
Approximately four months later, Mishra, accompanied by an accomplice, Ketan alias K.T. Ramasundar Tiwari from Kaushambi district in Uttar Pradesh, arrived at Shakuntala’s home under the guise of executing the contract.
“By that time, Amit Yadav had been incarcerated for another crime, leaving Shakuntala alone at home,” stated DCP (Crime) Ajit Rajian to IANS.
Authorities reported that the suspects abandoned the murder plan and instead opted to commit robbery.
“They spent the night at the residence and the next morning, allegedly suffocated Shakuntala with a cushion before escaping with about Rs 10 lakh in cash and 30 to 35 tolas of gold jewelry,” Rajian added.
It was later revealed that the stolen gold was sold in Kaushambi, according to police.
To avoid apprehension, Mishra maintained what officials described as a “digital silence,” refraining from using mobile devices or identification documents like PAN or Aadhaar cards.
He moved across various locations, including Goa and Mumbai, before settling in Ahmedabad in 2022 while concealing his identity.
“Thanks to technical intelligence and informant tips, the suspect was tracked down and arrested,” officials noted.
Police also mentioned ongoing coordination with Raipur authorities to facilitate the transfer of the suspect for further legal action.
