Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, Dec 26 (NationPress) Tension enveloped Chomu town in Rajasthan's Jaipur district early Friday morning after a conflict regarding the installation of an iron railing outside a mosque erupted into violent confrontations between rioters and police. The incident transpired around 3 a.m. near the Chomu bus stand, resulting in stone-pelting, injuries to multiple policemen, and the deployment of tear gas shells to control the situation.
Police officials reported that at least six policemen suffered injuries during the unrest and were taken to a nearby hospital. Most of the injured officers sustained head injuries; however, their conditions are deemed stable. Several police vehicles were also damaged amid the stone-throwing.
According to police sources, the conflict was rooted in the removal of stones placed along the roadside near the mosque.
On Thursday evening, a meeting occurred between representatives of a specific community and the police administration, wherein the community consented to voluntarily remove the stones. Nevertheless, after the stones were taken away, some individuals began erecting an iron railing to form a boundary near the mosque, igniting new tensions. When police attempted to intervene, a segment of the crowd reportedly turned aggressive and commenced stone-pelting at the police force, inciting chaos in the area. As the situation deteriorated, additional police units were dispatched from various police stations, including Chomu, Harmada, Vishwakarma, and Daulatpura.
To disperse the crowd and avert further violence, police employed mild force and discharged tear gas shells.
By morning, senior officials confirmed that the situation had been stabilized. Hundreds of police personnel conducted a flag march throughout Chomu to restore public confidence and maintain law and order.
Additional Police Commissioner Dr. Rajiv Pachar, DCP West Hanuman Prasad, and Additional DCP Rajesh Gupta, along with other senior officials from Jaipur, arrived at the scene to oversee the situation.
The officers urged local residents to uphold peace and harmony.
Police officials asserted that the area is currently calm, and efforts are underway to identify those responsible for the stone-pelting. Legal actions will be pursued against all suspects, with authorities emphasizing that any attempt to disrupt law and order will be met with zero tolerance.
Ramlal Sharma, former MLA from Chomu, verified to IANS that the situation is under control and noted that internet services are active in the locality. However, WhatsApp and bulk messaging services have been suspended.
