Christmas Celebration: Finnish Embassy Hosts Screening of Documentary on Ukrainian Refugee Mother and Daughter

New Delhi, Dec 19 (NationPress) In celebration of the Christmas season, diplomats, journalists, and influential figures united for a night of storytelling during the global premiere of the documentary film All I Want for Christmas at the Embassy of Finland, according to a statement released on Thursday.
This event was organized in partnership with the embassies of Finland, Ukraine, Norway, the Smile International Film Festival for Children and Youth (SIFFCY), and the Smile Foundation.
The documentary, which was screened on Wednesday, encapsulates the enchantment of Christmas while imparting a message of hope and resilience. Directed by the national award-winning filmmaker Kamakhya Narayan Singh, this 42-minute film narrates the experiences of Anastasia, a young Ukrainian refugee, and her mother as they confront the challenges of being displaced.
In an effort to restore joy to their lives, Anastasia’s mother organizes a trip to Lapland, Finland — a winter paradise where the dreams of meeting Santa come to fruition. Their adventure, which includes dog sledding across untouched terrains and swimming in the frigid waters of Kemi, evolves into more than just a vacation; it stands as a tribute to the resilience of the human spirit.
The audience, comprising dignitaries and diplomats, was profoundly touched by the narrative.
Oleksandr Polishchuk, the Ambassador of Ukraine to India, shared his reflections on the film's emotional depth, stating: “We are immensely thankful to the filmmakers, Travelxp, for bringing this impactful story to life. We also express our gratitude to our partners — Finland and Norway — for their steadfast support and commitment.”
The Ambassador emphasized that the film underscores the significant effects of conflict, especially on children, who ought to never be stripped of peace, security, and a nurturing home.
Kimmo Lahdevirta, Ambassador of Finland to India, remarked, “The documentary All I Want for Christmas not only embodies the spirit of Christmas but also showcases the strength, aspirations, and dreams of Ukrainian refugees. This film reflects our collective dedication to solidarity, compassion, and the belief in a brighter tomorrow for all.”
“All I Want for Christmas beautifully illustrates the essence of love, family, and hope. The journey of Anastasia and Ksenia serves as an inspiration as Norway continues to support Ukraine by hosting over 85,000 refugees. Let us cling to the hope of a future filled with peace and joy for all,” stated May-Elin Stener, Ambassador of Norway, after the film screening.
Nisha Chothani, the producer of the project, shared her vision for the documentary, stating, “All I Want for Christmas symbolizes the evolution of travel storytelling. While showcasing destinations remains a core aspect of our work, we’ve embraced the power of human stories to forge deeper connections.”
