Is a Coalition Government Unfit for Tamil Nadu? CM Stalin Affirms DMK-Congress Alliance Will Persist

Key Takeaways
Chennai, Feb 11 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and DMK President, M.K. Stalin, has asserted that a coalition government is not suitable for the state’s political landscape, while reaffirming that the partnership between his party and the Congress will endure in the upcoming Assembly elections.
At a private gathering in Chennai on Wednesday, CM Stalin discussed the current political atmosphere and the outlook for the next Assembly elections.
In response to some Congress leaders advocating for a formal coalition government, the Chief Minister emphasized that Tamil Nadu’s governance model is most effective under a stable, single-party administration rather than a power-sharing setup.
“A coalition government is not appropriate for Tamil Nadu,” CM Stalin stated, adding that while the alliance with Congress will remain, the request for a coalition government post-elections is unwarranted.
He referred to recent opinion polls indicating another potential victory for the DMK-led alliance.
According to CM Stalin, the surveys show a significant lead over their competitors.
“There is reported to be a 12 percent difference between the second and third-placed parties. Even a three percent margin can lead to a clean sweep. If it’s 12 percent, it signals a substantial victory,” he remarked.
However, the Chief Minister underscored that the party would not become complacent based on these numbers. Instead, he viewed the survey results as a motivating factor.
“These outcomes serve as encouragement for us. The DMK alliance is a movement for the people. We will work with increased enthusiasm to realize these expectations,” he affirmed.
When queried about whether the forthcoming election would be more challenging than the 2021 contest, CM Stalin expressed confidence. He noted that the Opposition alliances appeared disorganized and lacked clarity, while the DMK government had fulfilled many of its promises during its term.
“Compared to 2021, this election will be easier for us. Previously, we made promises. Now we have accomplishments to showcase,” he added.
CM Stalin’s comments follow earlier assertions by Tamil Nadu Congress President K. Selvaperunthagai, who had called for a coalition government under the DMK’s leadership.
With Congress leaders reiterating this demand, CM Stalin utilized the Chennai event to firmly establish the DMK’s stance on governance and alliance politics ahead of the pivotal polls.
