Concerns Emerge Over Bangladeshi Artist's Involvement in Bengal Festival

Kolkata, Dec 4 (NationPress) In light of the current violence against minority Hindus and the affront to the Tricolor in the neighboring country of Bangladesh, a collective of citizens have expressed their grievances concerning the planned appearance of a renowned Bangladeshi vocalist at an annual cultural festival taking place in West Bengal.
Each year, the Madhyamgram Municipality in the North 24 Parganas district hosts its annual “Paribesh Mela”, with the cultural segment being the highlight of the event, featuring popular singers and bands from both India and Bangladesh.
The upcoming cultural program on December 28 includes the name of the acclaimed Bangladeshi singer Rezwana Choudhury Bannya as one of the performers.
However, the members of Madhyamgram Nagarikbrinda, a civil society organization in the Madhyamgram Municipality area, have raised concerns regarding Bannya's participation in the event.
The group has even made a public appeal via social media urging the Madhyamgram Municipality authorities to reconsider including the popular Bangladeshi singer in this year’s festivities.
“This is an appeal to Madhyamgram Municipality as Indian citizens, asking that the scheduled musical participation of Rezwana Choudhury Bannya in the event on the occasion of Paribesh Mela on December 28 be reconsidered. Our country comes first. Please take this into consideration,” the appeal stated.
The appeal has garnered numerous comments endorsing the civil society group's demands. “Entry to India should be entirely prohibited for them. We must adopt a firm stance towards those who disrespect our Tricolor,” remarked one admin of the civil society group.
Another group admin highlighted that no individual from Bangladesh's cultural sector has spoken out against the violence and discrimination faced by minority Hindus there.
“In fact, they have indirectly supported such actions. Under these circumstances, their involvement in West Bengal's cultural events is unacceptable,” he stated.
