Congress Aims for Revival in Delhi with the Pyari Didi Initiative After Two Consecutive Electoral Defeats

New Delhi, Jan 7 (NationPress) Following a lack of support from Delhi voters in the last two Assembly elections, the Congress party is fervently working to establish its relevance in the forthcoming polls. The focus is on the women electorate, for whom the party has introduced the ‘Pyari Didi Yojana' offering Rs 2,500 in financial aid to qualifying individuals.
The Congress has declared that, if elected, it will endorse this scheme during its inaugural cabinet meeting.
Once a dominant force in Delhi under the leadership of Sheila Dikshit, the Congress is now striving to regain its footing as an independent entity, especially after its ally, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, announced plans to contest the upcoming Assembly elections independently.
The Delhi Assembly elections, previously anticipated to be a duel between AAP and the BJP, have evolved into a three-way contest, with Congress actively asserting its political stance in the national capital through a proactive approach.
It's worth noting that Congress had previously supported AAP in forming the government in 2013, which led to AAP's rise in Delhi's political arena.
The Congress party has been critical of both AAP and BJP regarding multiple issues, including alleged corruption and governance shortcomings.
Moreover, Congress accused the AAP government in Delhi of failing to deliver on its commitments to the public.
“AAP has lost credibility. In Punjab, the AAP pledged Rs 1,000 monthly for women 34 months ago, and today, women are at Kejriwal's door demanding justice,” remarked the Delhi Congress.
Congress also criticized AAP's leader regarding the Sheesh Mahal controversy after a recent report from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) revealed exorbitant expenses related to the renovation of the Delhi Chief Minister’s residence under Kejriwal.
Delhi Congress President Devender Yadav's 'Nyay Yatra' has also instilled hope among party supporters who are fervently wishing for a comeback.
He asserted that Congress is not in the business of making false promises and only commits to what it can deliver.
While Congress MP Ajay Maken has vowed to unveil the AAP leader's misdeeds, he has yet to make any definitive statements, drawing criticism from the BJP, which labeled it a “deal” between Congress and AAP.
The Election Commission of India is anticipated to reveal the election schedule for the Delhi Assembly polls on Tuesday.
Delhi has 1,55,24,858 registered voters, and the current Delhi Assembly's term concludes on February 23.
