Delhi Elections: Congress Promises Monthly Support of Rs 2,500 for Women

New Delhi, Jan 6 (NationPress) The Delhi Congress unveiled the 'Pyari Didi Yojana' on Monday, which aims to provide a monthly financial support of Rs 2,500 to all qualified women in the city if the party gains power in the upcoming Assembly elections.
In an effort to engage voters in Delhi, the party invited Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to the press conference, where he emphasized the success of a similar initiative in his state and labeled it a model even for states led by the BJP.
“The 'Pyari Didi Yojana' will receive approval during the very first Cabinet session of the Congress after winning in Delhi,” stated Shivakumar, appealing to voters based on the Karnataka model.
He provided insights into the welfare initiatives of the Congress executed in his state, which included monthly financial support for women and complimentary travel for women on public buses.
“The Congress has fulfilled every promise made in various regions of the country,” asserted Shivakumar, reassuring women in Delhi of the proposed financial assistance.
He remarked how the BJP has ridiculed Congress’ assurances, arguing that the Karnataka government would face bankruptcy, yet the BJP later adopted a similar model in states like Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Haryana.
“The financial aid provided by Congress is designed to assist families in combating inflation and offer relief to struggling households,” he noted, stressing that the Congress has a long history of serving the nation and is optimistic about regaining power in Delhi.
Qazi Nizamuddin, AICC in charge of the Delhi Congress unit, mentioned, “The Congress has its credibility, and today it is launching its initial social scheme.”
The Congress is recognized for its focus on social welfare, while the BJP has merely made false promises, including claims of depositing Rs 15 lakh into each citizen's bank account or creating jobs.
Referring to the Rs 2,000 monthly assistance initiative known as “Gruha Lakshmi” in Karnataka as a “success story,” he pointed out that the Congress government in the southern state approved these social welfare programs during its first Cabinet meeting.
Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav also introduced a tagline for the election campaign: “Hogi har zaroorat puri, Congress hai zaroori” (Congress is vital for fulfilling all essential needs).
Yadav noted that over 1.2 crore women in Karnataka receive Rs 2,000 in their bank accounts each month under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, while 10 kg of rice is provided for free to 4 crore individuals in Karnataka, and 1.89 lakh unemployed youth benefit from Rs 216.93 crore allocated for programs designed for them.
“Each household in Karnataka is saving approximately Rs 4,000-5,000 each month, transforming their lives, and similar initiatives will be implemented in Delhi as well,” he said, emphasizing that the Congress has delivered on its commitments in Karnataka, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, and previously in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.
He criticized AAP's former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, without naming him, for selling dreams to the populace without making any improvements to the city’s infrastructure, including schools, electricity, and water.
Labeling Kejriwal a “dream seller,” Yadav stated that AAP has also failed to combat corruption as it had pledged.
