Is Congress Creating Anarchy in Telangana's Hung Municipalities?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, Feb 15 (NationPress) K.T. Rama Rao, the Working President of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), publicly condemned the Congress party in Telangana for allegedly creating chaos to seize control over 34 municipalities that resulted in indecisive outcomes from the recent civic elections.
He accused the ruling Congress of engaging in acts such as kidnapping and bribing Corporators and Councillors, deploying police to intimidate, and utilizing goons.
Rama Rao made these statements while addressing the media following the Sevalal Maharaj Jayanti celebrations at the Telangana Bhavan party headquarters.
The election of Chairpersons, Vice-Chairpersons, Mayors, and Deputy Mayors for the municipalities that held elections last week is scheduled for Monday, where newly-elected Councillors and Corporators will play a crucial role.
Commenting on BRS's support for the Communist Party of India (CPI) in the Kothagudem municipality, Rama Rao noted that this decision was made with the interests of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) workers in mind.
KTR emphasized their aim to halt the exploitation occurring in Singareni. He criticized both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress for colluding in the exploitation of Singareni, which he claimed undermines the organization.
KTR pointed out that CPI and Congress are already in alliance, making it unsurprising that they are sharing the Mayor's position in Kothagudem.
However, he expressed confusion regarding why an organization linked to CPI, such as the All India Trade Union Congress, agreed to this alliance and mentioned that he cannot determine the pressures involved.
Regardless of alliances, KTR asserted that BRS will continue to advocate for the rights and interests of the Singareni organization and its workers, just as they have done in the past.
The BRS leader highlighted that former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) implemented the slogan "Our kingdom should be in our herds," enhancing the dignity of tribal communities.
He recalled the formation of 3,146 new gram panchayats, prioritizing tribal Gudas, Koya Gudas, and Lambada Thandas, resulting in thousands of tribal youths being appointed as sarpanches and ward members.
He also mentioned that approximately 30,000 ward members have emerged from tribal backgrounds.
Additionally, KTR noted that the BRS government safeguarded tribal land rights by issuing pattas for about four-and-a-half lakh acres of uncultivated land in a single move.
